My friend has a 2004.5 3500 4x4 6-speed 3.73 gears Borla flow through exhaust, AFE air cleaner, Edge products Tuner. Pulls Double with Fifth Wheel RV and tow behind trailer for 4 wheelers and sometimes the Jeep instead. It is time for a Clutch and he is wanting one that has more holding power than stock but with the stock type manners and does not chatter/jerk when releasing like some stiff stout clutches do.

He has noticed the stock clutch would not hold on a hill while the Edge is in Level 2 and he has to baby it...Level 3 is out of the question. I remember someone mentioning years back that when you go back with a better clutch you also have to change out the hydraulic slave cylinder.

Need some feedback from user's of these suggested clutches too!

Also would need someone that is specializing in this field of work near the San Antonio Texas area that will do great work and service. Could drive to another close by town if it is necessary and worth the great customer service.

Thanks, RB

You don't have to change the hydraulics with a new or better clutch for that year. You can change it due to wear, miles, or just to renew it.

You should change the rear main and the front transmission seal because you are there.

I dropped in the South Bend 1947-OK-HD with the extra wide organic lining. (Kit has the flywheel and HD pilot bearing. Again you are there might as well just throw the new flywheel and better pilot bearing design at it.) The clutch is smooth as advertised. The pedal is slightly heavier.

You can call South Bend and they will help you choose a clutch. They will help you troubleshoot the clutch if the shop FUBAR's the job.

Even better is Xtreme Diesel Performance carries SBC and Valair, has 10% off for Labor Day (till 9/8/15), and free shipping.

What ever you chose, dual disks clutches are noisy, so if you can stay away from them, I would. The hydraulics your referring to is the conversion for the DMF to a SMF, but the 04.5 has the NV5600 and has the SMF. Once I get my surging 6.7 solved I'm going to the 1947-OK-HD. Peter at SB clutch is the best person to talk to and he is a member here, if you can't get him on the phone, send him a PM. I have the SDD 3250 and it holds the power during my surging issue, unlike the stock DMF and clutch. I talked to him in person and he is a strait shooter and won't up sell you. Good luck with whatever you chose.
