Need Help Selling My Mom's AVION

Hey Guys, just trying to get some word of mouth on My Mom's fifth wheel. It is a 1995 Avion 33 1/2 foot. I have an ad in the classifieds. She really needs to sell it fast. Her and Dad had been traveling full time and after Dad died she bought a house and thought she would have the trailer sold by now. We had put it on consignment at a dealer and they haven't sold it in over a year so we took it back. Found out they were asking 29,900 for it, and while it books at 27,000 we are willing to let it go for a whole lot less if we can move it fast. I hope I am not violating any rules here I just know that Mom's savings are dwindeling from having to make house payments and trailer payments. If you or anyone you know is looking for a very nice high end, and well taken care of trailer let me know. This would be good for us and whoever wants to save about $7,000 on a full time RV setup.



Also if anyone knows of other good places to post an ad for it on-line let me know that too.

If you're trying to sell it real fast, then I think your best best would be to post it on eBay. The longest auction listing period I've seen has been 10 days but shorter durations are also offered. I'd opt for the 10-day listing tho just to be sure to get the most interest. You can post it on eBay but still sell it elsewhere by just mentioning that you have it advertised elsewhere & reserve the right to sell it thru other channels. I mostly follow vehicle auctions & I've seen language to that effect but I don't see why the same wouldn't apply to RV's.

I've never sold a vehicle on eBay but have bought 2 & followed quite a few auctions. Here's what I know:



Do I have to accept the highest bid?

Nope. Just set a reserve (lowest acceptable) price. If bidding never reaches the reserve, the vehicle, whatever ... never gets sold. It's as simple as that. What I've seen quite a few times, is an item come up for auction at least twice. Apparently the reserve was set too high initially so the seller re-listed the item with a lower reserve.



How about getting paid?

I've only bought two vehicles off eBay & paid for one with a cashiers check & cash for the other when I picked both up. All other, smaller (lower valued), items I've bid on & won have been paid for via PayPal using my credit card. Sellers can specify the acceptable forms of payment, as well as the required deposit, as well as the deadline for picking up & making final payment on the vehicle. eBay probably has tips/guidelines but you could also look at existing auctions for examples.

There are many websites where RVs can be advertised. RV Trader OnLine is one that comes to mind. There is also an Avion website that includes classified ads. You can find it by doing a search under Avion. I think it is actually listed under Avion Travel Club or Avion Travelcade. I would copy and paste it here but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to cut and paste to the TDR Forums. For some reason the TDR site won't allow copying URLs via the simple cut and paste method.

Ebay may not be your best avenue as their are alot of 1995 38 footers that can be had for 18k. Just depends on "how bad" you need to get rid of it I suppose.

Thanks for the help guys, I have had some people answer but noone seems interested in a full time living unit. mostly just weekender types. I really thought it would sell fast. Especially so far under book. Are RV's really that devalued?



Sorry but I guess I am disappointed that I haven't even got someone who would try and talk prices. Is there something specific I am overlooking in trying to express this setup's merits. We just paid several hundred dollars in September to have everything fixed so that it was in top shape. The other thing that is kind of bugging me is that a few have told me that Avion's are not good trailers and yet all the magazines we have from back when my folk's bought it and for a while thereafter trumpeted it as one of the best. We have never had a problem and felt it was an excellent trailer, is there something that I should be knowing about?

Don't get too frustrated. Unfortunately, RV's don't always turn quickly. Location may have something to do with it if the Avion is in SD - the snowbirds (full-timers) are pretty much gone South to Florida, Texas, Arizona and California by now. Don't lose hope - the right buyer will come along.
