I'm finally ready to bite the bullet and order either a box (Comp of PM3) or a set of injectors (DD or BD II's). Lately, I've noticed that when driving in town that my truck is kind of a dog from idle to about 1500rpm. From what I gather, the ISB makes most of its power in the higher RPM's. How do I change this? Looking at dyno curves of the different boxes, they all seem to add power most above 1800 instead of down low. Are injectors the cure for this? I only have the scratch for one or the other, so which will help me the most in the lower RPM's?

try not to heavily load the engine below 1600... . it really does not like it. 1600-2700 is where they like to run. If you want more mid range, get a CPC type box

Van Aaken

Edge EZ

Power Puck

They all come with Boost Modules.

They will really help out from 1600 to 2500.

Injectors help out throughout the whole powerband, but boxes are more specific with regards to RPM.

I'm not wanting to lug the engine down,

I just want to get moving. When I leave a stop sign or something in secong, I let the clutch out at an idle and away I go. This thing is just a slug until the fuel comes in. Kind of crappy when trying to cross a busy highway.

J, the VA comes in lower than any of the others DF mentioned, at least to me it does. I have not dyno'ed them, but my SOP feel is the VA has more bottom than the others. It still is not going to do a lot under 1100 or so, and not really hit it's stride till 14-1500. Injectors will help from right off idle, theoretically at least. They will smoke from right off idle, but you are going to have a dog until you get some boost. Boost will come up faster as you are dumping more fuel with larger injectors. It is just the nature of the diesel in a heavy truck. You can slip the clutch just a hair to get some boost quicker with the higher RPM, or you can take to letting out the clutch and nailing it to get some boost. You could do a set of smaller injectors and a VA or EZ, that really is the best recipe for a strong bottom end but it will smoke pretty hard if you get on it just off idle. If you want better response off idle the only way to get it is to make boost earlier, either through fuel (smoke) or RPM. Hope this helps.
