Yes. My Toyo MTs fit in the spare tire area, but if you have a MagHytec cover, as I do, you will need to pull it all the way back against the hitch when you raise it so it will clear. I did that with mine and it clears by a few millimeters... Oo. If you have a stock diff cover then no problems at all.

Exactly. . and mine keeps slipping fwd. . I really just need to ratchet it aft.

I've found an excellent tire for winter driving. Wild Country XTX. I put these on last fall the same day we were having a blizzard (one of many last winter) and I couldn't believe the traction I got. Being only a 2WD I was amazed that the only time I got stuck was pushing 14 inches of snow on top of packed ice. Otherwise it would dig like crazy.

The only drawback is wear. 45-55,000. So being I put on 80,000 miles a year for work I will be replacing tires once or twice a year. I can live with that if I don't have to dig myself out of a snowbank when I'm on the road for work in the middle of nowhere North Dakota.

I also upgraded to 8 ply 285's when I changed them. Bigger footprint and a little heavier but still rides great unloaded. I also installed Centramatic balancers so rotating tires is a breeze in the driveway.

I understand that I'm Johnny Come Lately to this thread, but wanted to add my . 02. FYI, My truck is a 03' 2WD Hiway Cruiser.

I wanted to upgrade out of my Chrome Clad Steel wheels into the O. E. M. Polished/Clearcoated Alloy Wheels (05-7 ??)

I decided to leave (50% wear) MICHELIN A/S's on Steel Wheels and sell complete.

After reading that the GENERAL GRABBER HTS was Consumer Reports Mag & the TireRack.com # 1 Hiway Tire..... I shopped and bought them from Discount Tires, Custom Wheels, Rims, Goodyear, Michelin, Cooper Tires

They are quiet, but honestly cant talk about milage, rain, snow etc... ... . as my truck sits mostly.

Hello
Had a set of toyo M55`s on my truck lasted 33000 hard miles Dalton highway(haul road) in alaska with my cabover camper and tag trailer (went thru 2 tires on my tag trailer, and a 12000 mile road trip to keywest and back to alaska not one flat tire or tire failure. I was very pleased with the tires. Was time to purchase more tires went to the tire Shop in Ketchikan AK while on another trip. and told the saslesman i wanted M55s he talked me into the Toyo MT gave me all kinds of reasons to buy them. he finally closed the deal with a written warrenty to me stating if i was not as pleased with the MTs he would put on the M55s for free. the MTs were 200 cheaper off the whole bill. So far I am very pleased with the snow and Ice performance.

my 2 pennys worth

In regards to the General Grabber HTS, we recently put them on my wife's Highlander.
As we live in Minnesota, we needed good traction on snow and ice. The Grabbers
did not disappoint. They are the best winter tire I have ever used, and have high
all around ratings including tread wear. The stock Michelins on my '07 don't come
close in snow, although they are excellent otherwise. Since many tests have given
the Grabber top recommendations, they are getting hard to find. We just had a foot
of snow before Christmas. The Ram stayed home. According to the Tire Rack, they
are available with an E rating for the 265/70R17. The price was very reasonable too.

I ran the original Mich. tires for almost 40k then went to 285 Toyo A/T's and at just over 20k Les Schwab replaced them under warranty with another set that now has about 12k on them for $400. The Toyo's have good traction but you can almost see the wear out. I live where the roads are all 2 lane windy roads, so I am sure that wears tires fast. My wifes Excursion has BF Goodrich AT with over 30k on the and will probably go fo another 10k. I would choose the BF Goods.

Sorry about the Furd, but it is an early 03 with the 7. 3 not the 6 leaker! If it only had a CTD!

First, I use my truck as a daily driver, on roads and highways. Occasionally (maybe twice a year) I'll venture out on a light dirt trail or something just for fun. I'd like to keep the stock tire size 265/70/17.

I'd love to have the Michelin LTX AT/2, but at about $1000 installed... ... dang.

What are some of the other tires that people are using that are reasonably priced and have decent treadwear, etc.

Or if someone knows how to get the Michelins for about half the price... . :)
I have a 2003 Ram 2500 4x4 crew cab long bed with a contractors cap on it. I've had Michelin's and Firestone's on it. I' running Michelin's again now. Neither tire is great for off road, but both handled well in rain and snow. I got only about 50,000 miles on the Firestone's and I had over 77,000 on the Michelin's and they weren't that bad but winter was coming!

Michelins working so far.

I have the 285/70/17 Michelin LTX AT2 with 52K miles and they look like they'll bust 80K no problem. I met the AT2 tire designer at a shopping mall here in Greenville (Michelin's US headquarters) and he asked how many miles and when I said about 50K, he got a nice satisfied smile on his face. ANyway there is no weather that has made me doubt the truck is attached to the road. We just had a 10 inch snowfall up in NC and my son and I had to go help some friends dig out (10 inches is a catastrophe in the SE, ya'll) and shovel a driveway at the top of a mountain. We drove up a steep private drive with grades in excess of 15% and had no problem with these tires except for the short stretch where the grade had to be almost 20%, thats the only place we lost traction and we had to shovel tire paths down to asphalt . But we got out after a good workout of cement shoveling. Pictures attached. My next tires will be Michelin, again.

If you want michelins for cheap stay glued to craigslist & watch for someone dumping their stock rims & tires. I bought a set off of an '07, on the factory chrome clad (you'll pay more for the alloys) wheels for $400, drove 'em for 35,000 miles, then sold just the tires for $150. I bought new 285/17 duragrapplers for $1000 plus & put them on those rims & am very pleased with the tires, even though I did have 2 brand new airstems fail due to the incompetent twits at the tireshop I used. If you want 265/17 highway tires look for the takeoffs... .
