New 3 piece exhaust manifold?

k&n filter

PATRIOT_Ram, I saw that thread. there was also a post from someone who got something like 50 hp more with the high ram. Remember, airflow improvements don't = more hp unless more fuel is added or if there hasn't been enough air to burn the fuel already supplied. I installed a Banks High Ram & didn't have much trouble. The fit was good, no problem with the ducting out of the aftercooler. The dip stick tube needed to be bent a little but not really a problem either.

Yep, I'm calling ATS this morning just to see if the misaligned pipe is normal. if so, I would seriously conceder the banks manifold in stead. .

Been There Done That

I had the same issues with the install. However, when I went to torque down the manifold the bolts tore thru the manifold :--) . I called ATS and they said they had some casting issues and would send out a new one. Got the new one installed and had the same issues. I removed it and will be talking to ATS this weekend at LACR.

just put my ats manifold on sunday. took about a half hour. no problems pretty straight forward ;) the motor seems to sound a little deeper in tone. turbo definitly spools faster. very happy with the craftsmanship of the intake. maybe someday ill get water methanol kit. it will be an easy hookup. :-laf

Talked to ATS this morning and they are fully aware for the "misalignment" issue with the 3 gen trucks but they continue to sell the product knowing full well that it is NOT CORRECT. I'm not talking about a slight misalignment here, it's off more than 1/2 the pipe. You Practically have to stand on the intercooler pipe to get it to line up. And now there’s a lot of pressure on the AC hoses and will eventually rub a hole in them. I'm not one to complain but this is OUTRAGEOUS! I have lost all confidence in ATS and would not purchase or recommend any of there products!

I too bought one and took it right back off due to fit. As I understand it fits the older trucks better than the 3rd gens. Banks alignment is better from what others have said.

Looks nice though, they just need a different one for the 3rd gens IMO.

Maybe that's why all of the ads show the intake "Off" the truck and never installed. I was really interested in one of these because of the looks as well as the pre-tapped holes. hmmm.....

I made a new pipe but I have been trying to find a ring to weld onto the tube so the boot does not come off at 50psi!

could you not roll a bead on the end of the pipe? roller on the inside and mandral on the outside could get you a nice bead to keep the hose in place. or you could make your own jig to use a hammer and rounded punch to do the same [not as pretty though] or if you are set on welding in a ring, just some gas/tig welding filler rolled around the pipe and welded down. .

It may come down to welding it but I would rather have the ring.

I was reading the current edition of Diesel Power Magazine (for the 3rd time :-laf ) and on the last page where it talks about the next issue's projects, they are doing a piece on Cummins power upgrades and the picture shows them installing one of these on a 3rd Gen. It will be interesting to see what they have to say about the fit. Nothing like a little bad publicity to get the ball rolling on a better cast.

You do have to be a stickler for fit and finish because it will work, I just thought with what it cost it should fit right and not have things in a bind.

Don't even ask me about the fit of their Aurora 5000 turbo compressor discharge elbow on a 2nd gen. Clint seems like a cool dude but for chits sake he needs to get some design folks that have a little more than high school shop class experience. I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER like this should never get past the first stage in R&D.

I don't think your crazy, Jake. That's exactly what it's suposed to do & it's pretty much what happend for me too on my 2nd gen. Also, Banks did the right thing & makes a different casting for the CR motors.

As stated in the last page, the ATS has not fit on any of the 3rd gen rigs very nicely at all, and when all was said and done the banks found it's way onto these trucks... . that said, the ATS fit nearly perfectly on my '02, though the bolt for holding the dipstick tube in place was not right, and the Manifold needed to be tapped out, but that aside it is a nice piece, I don't have a dyno number per-se but the "seat-of-the-pants" dyno said there was a small change, seems to pull a little harder out of the very bottom end.
