New Batteries

Thank you all! Looks like Costco is the deal. What about the AGM (upgrade?) factor? Is it worth it?...truck is an '04.

I went back and checked my records and I have been averaging 7+ years for the tuck. I got 5 years out of the factory batteries and then I switched to NAPA Legend Batteries. The second set was purchased in July 2020. They seemed to last between 5 and 8 years on all of my vehicles. All of my vehicles have been kept in a garage except one a 1969 VW Beetle. The battery cables are cleaned at the terminals every year and then a covering of Dielectric grease is put on the terminals.

I have use NAPA batteries in all of my vehicles once the factory batteries are worn out. Now being retired I could not afford buying batteries every three years, just saying.

That makes sense as I am fairly sure that NAPA Legends are manufactured by East Penn.
East Penn make an EXCELLENT and long lasting battery domestically mostly by NOT using recycled lead in their plates !!!

I have a pair of Everstart Maxx batteries, from Walmart. I've always had better luck with these, than the more expensive batteries. I kept burning through the O'Reilly top of the line batteries, every couple of years. I went with them, because I could get them 1/2 off. Sure they replaced under warranty, but I just got tired of rep!acing them. Over the 30+ years, I've only had one Walmart battery give out, prematurely.

You sure on this, John? It’s not like any battery warranty I’ve ever heard of. We use ACDelco (Johnson Controls) at the shop and employees buy a lot. Their Gold is a 42 month full replacement. We have had a few employee batteries replaced under warranty and the warranty on the replacement battery is still 42 months from the original purchase date, not for another 42 months.

While I have never had to enact it, that is what Costco has told me when they have done warranty replacements.

I've had good luck last 20y with Costco batteries.. I just put a new interstate in my Chevelle 800CCA, that was replacing a 12y old Kirkland battery!!... guess I got that 100mo warranty.... I have Costco in my boat, RV, all cars (except that special HONDA)... and zero issues. I would typically get 6y on my Ram trucks and when time comes on the 20' it'll get a set of standard batteries, no need for AGM IMHO, Id rather buy a prime rib while I'm there for Christmas

Absolute worst battery ever was a "GOLD" from Advance Auto... died in a year (in my Camaro).. I took it back, they "have to charge it and check it" before replacement,.. some how passed the test then dead again at home.. did that dance 3 trips and i went to Costco and bought a new one instead.. I still have that battery on a shelf as a reminder..........
