I know where a set of New Era 370s are for sale for around $275. They are for a second gen, so I am wondering if I can take the nozzles off the 2nd gen injector bodies, and install them on my bodies. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but, i just want to make sure.

Thanks

You would need to have the pop off pressure set. I take that back. You can simply swap the parts, but if you want it right, you would need to have the pressure set to your desired spec and make them all alike.

Yep, you can just get nozzles and move them onto your stock injector bodies. The pp pressures should be reset for a good experience though. You will have some strange behaviour when the pop pressures are off.

Wouldn't the pop pressure be the same as the stock 1st Gen, because those are the bodies I will be using? I guess it can't hurt to have them reset though. Where would one send them, and how much should I expect to pay to have them reset?

Scheids would be a good choice for you or find a local shop to deal with. Any Bosch authorized fuel injection shop can take care of you. Google it. ;)

I have inquired at my local shop about work such as this and the following is why I don't travel down this avenue;

To swap tips/bodies would employ the same procedure as a rebuild so it is 65. 00 per injector. Do you see where this is leading?

(Just buy some ready to go)

Take greenleafs advice buy the ones done otherwise your trading s##t for manure and probably cost more in the long run. My engine builder told me long ago time to do it wrong ya got time to do it right!

Finding a set of 1st gen injectors with 370 tips ready to go could be a problem. Not a normal thing to keep on the shelf at most shops.

Having your set rebuilt is at least getting a known product instead of somebody else's junk. Granted the shop should have checked everything but unless you suspect yours are bad, use them.

My local shop charges about $8 a stick to swap tips/ reset pressures/ clean, etc. If you need a new tip, it's $60-65, though.

I'd just get some 1stGen 370 EDMs, esp if you are concerned about smoke and MPGs. 2ndGen piston bowls are different than 1stGens, which could give you smoke, as the 2ndGen tip isnt designed for the 1stGen bowl. Smell what I'm steppin in? I have been down the marine road too many times to put just any injector in the engine. If it isnt for a 1stGen design (i. e. the stock 6 hole, or 185 5 hole), I aint wasting my time or money.

I think I found a set for $250, and Brian will install, and set them for free, so I'm going to do that and save a couple hundred bucks. :D

For what its worth, Brian told me in his pulling truck (or towing truck I guess... ) he did the same thing. Bought a set of cheap 2nd Gen 370's and swapped tips. He says it makes a nice, reliable 300rwhp, which is what I'm after.

Thanks for the help.
