New MBRP system: paint/etc to prevent rust? Do I need to use extension pipe?

I just recieved my new 5" MBRP exhaust system today for my truck. Got a few busy days coming up before I get some time to install it. Just looking over the system and wondering if anyone here has ever tried any type of paint or other coating to prevent rust on the system. The parts I'm concerned about are the welded on hanger on the rear piece and the welds on the muffler and the clamps and hangers seem to be steel as well. Is there any type of coating on these and the welds already? If anyone has tried painting them or something else what did you use and how did it work? Or am I just worrying too much and should I just install the exhaust as is?

Just wanting to make this exhaust last and long as possible. I live in Tennessee now and we don't see a ton of nasty weather and salt but I still go back up north where I grew up in Ohio a few times every winter and wanting to make sure I don't ruin the system. Thanks in advance for any help!

I live in an area where they don't use much salt on the roads so I got the aluminized instead of the stainless MBRP. Before the install I wiped down all the parts with alcohol and painted everything with Duplicolor silver ceramic paint. Been on the truck for a couple of years now and still looks like new.

Thanks, I guess I'll try some of that paint. I'm mainly just looking to make the system last as long as possible.

do I need to use the 34" extension pipe?

Had a bit of extra time in the shop today and got the exhaust out of the box. I decided to sand down all of the sharp edges on the hangers and the welds. Started to paint it a bit with some of the duplicolor high heat paint. Still got to paint the tail pipe and the down pipe yet.

Was wondering if anyone can help me on this one... I have a 1999 2500 quad cab short bed that the exhaust is going on. Do I need to use the 34" extension pipe in the kit or will it be the right length without it? Or do I need to use the extension pipe and shorten it at all? Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before just to save me some fitting time.

I use to have that system on my truck & loved it. Its nice to see you take the extra step that nobody else really thinks about. Good job. -----Proflow

Thanks, I didn't like all the sharp edges left everywhere. We're real picky about that on any work that we do so I just had to clean it up. Plus, I'm hoping that the paint will make it last a lot longer. Nice truck you got there by the way.

I'm still wondering if I'll need the extension pipe or not for my 99 2500 quad cab short bed? I'll try laying it out today and seeing if that will tell me.

What about an exhaust already on truck? What can be painted on exhaust with light rust spots already on the tubing?
