2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission New power steering gear box ?

Replaced my dad's gear box today with a Redhead unit. While turning the wheel to bleed the air out, a red colored fluid mixed with the new steering fluid I put in. I'm guessing this is some sort of assembly lube/fluid that Redhead uses when they put the pumps together or test them. Question is, do I have to keep sucking the fluid out when it mixes with the red fluid or is it ok to leave the mixed colored fluid in? There's no one at Redhead today being its Saturday so I hope one of you guys will have an answer.

its probably transmission fluid... should be fine

Ok, thanks. After further discussion over a few beers, we determined they probably wouldn't send there product out with contaminated fluid in it. So that, along with your approval, we topped it off and on to the next project. Thank you.

It depends on the year of your dad's truck. ATF is not the correct fluid in my system, I don't know which year it changed.

Truck's a '99. My '06 calls for transmission fluid, but I switched it to power steering fluid. From the time the truck was new, my '06 steering made awkward noises and both the pump and gear box had to be replaced around 50K miles. That's when I switched to ps fluid and now at 170K miles I'm still trouble free.

I have a redhead box that I installed around early spring of this year in my ride. It had ATF in it. I have not had any problems with it putting regular power steering fluid in. Been fine for about 5k miles
