OK after changing lanes on top of a car on my right hip, the mirrors went up into the towing position. Snoking
I think you will find yourself backing up looking out the back window instead of using your mirrors. You will find with your mirrors out over 9 feet and your truck bed is 6 feet your view angle will be funky. Mirrors have to be the same width as your vehicle to backup square. I think you will find yourself over correcting the whole time you backup not to mention sweeping the sidewalksI don't think you will like them out.

Got that ghost trailer hooked up!!!
I agree the 4th gen mirrors are POS compared to 2nd/3rd gen ones... but tow mirrors up just looks like a large donkey without a trailer.
There is an unwritten rule that if you run your mirrors out all the time, you must have a large (or two) stack coming out of the bed.....and truck nutz.
I'm surprised the 4 gen mirrors bother so many people. Sure, it took a bit of adjustment when new, but I am used to them now. I have even done a little test multiple times....when a car is approaching me from behind in the lane to my right, I've checked to see if I can see them the whole time....and I can. As soon as the car disappears from the large mirror, it shows up in the spot.

I've owned 3rd GEN's w/tow mirrors from 2003 through 2013.......the tow mirror blind spot mirrors on my 2013 & 2014 are superior to the 3rd GEN's. If properly adjusted in the down position, I can see the front of a car with my peripheral vision and the back of the car in the blind spot.I agree the 4th gen mirrors are POS compared to 2nd/3rd gen ones... but tow mirrors up just looks like a large donkey without a trailer.

Interesting. I have yet to find that adjustment on the 4th gen mirrors.
