iv got a buddy that has a 05 an he's geten ready to upgrade turbo's. will his hx40 bolt right up 2 my 00? will i have to buy a new down pipe or can i just get a different flang?

thanx a bunch

Nope it should bolt right up just get the gasket from the manifold to the turbo and the gasket for the oil drain, use your old oil fitting for the oil feed off the hx35 if it doesn't come with one. the hardest part for me was to get the old 4" dp off the exhaust and put the new one on. Depending on your exhaust you might need to make modifications to get the down pipe to fit up to the existing 4" you have because of the different lengths of the down pipes.

'05 is NOT an hx40!! it is an HE351cw. it will NOT easily bolt in place of a hx35. the exhaust discharge is totally different and so is the compressor discharge. The '05 also has an electric solenoid for the wastegate control and will need to be drilled and tapped for a boost elbow. not to mention taking it completely apart to "clock" it as there are pins that hold it in alignment. It is not impossible to do but certainly not a "simple" bolt in.

how do you know he didn't put an hx40 on his 05? The question was about an hx 40 and it will bolt right in place... If the original poster was incorrect on the turbo model then there will be some conflict.

I dont know why someone would go through the trouble to put an hx40 on a '05  but if he did, then yes it will go on a 2nd gen fairly easy. he can also get an adapter from Source to mate the 40 outlet with the 35 down pipe. :)

How do we know he did? The fact is... the way the information was presented was that the HX40 was from an 05. Which doesn't sound right. Unless it was a prior upgrade to the 05. To which we don't know... because the original poster provided too little and unclear information. If he and his buddy were into swapping turbos on these trucks... they'd already know that an HX40 flange (most all) will work on a 5. 9L manifold and this wouldn't be a question here. His buddy would have told him the answer because he had to go through the trouble of putting an HX on the 05.

I believe that its his buddy that has no idea which turbo his 05 has. Probably knew the 05's had more power than the older trucks... and the 40 is "bigger" than the 35. So the 05 must have the 40. In fact its the much different HE351cw.
