New York to LA

I'm posting this here because this forum has a lot to do with traveling. That said I'm planning a trip from New York to LA. I have no reason to go there than to just go as I've never been there. I'd like to make the trip there in the least time possible (a la Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Run, Gumball Rally, Cannonball Run, etc. ). Anyone ever do this? Any comments (other than I need a hobby)?

I-80w to I 81 s to I 40W to I 15S. If you like winter weather Take I 80W to I 15S to LA.

How about, I-80 w to I-76 to I-70w to I-15, I-15s to L A. 2807 miles, 43hrs & 31min. drive time and beautiful trip thru Co.

FDNYMOPAR - - - You didn't say what time of year you were planning to go - - - but if is now or in the near future (this winter) watch the weather reports and take I-80 to Pennsylvania, I-81 down to I-76, and on to I-70. Stay on I-70 to St Louis and take I-44 west out of St. Louis. Stay on I-44 all the way to Oklahoma City. Check weater at Ok City and if it will be clear stay on I-40 to LA. This time of year is qusetionable at both Tucumcari, NM and Flagstaff, AZ.



At Oklahoma City if weather is bad you can take I-35 south to Ft Worth and pick up

I-20. Take I-20 to Tuscon and then make a choice - - I-8 west to San Diego or up to Phoenix and I-10 to LA. San Diego is worth a stop and the south Arizona desert is worth while this time of year. Much to see and do the whole way. Its a little longer but weather won't be much of a problem if you stay south.

FD never made it to LA but I made it to Wyoming, Utah, Reno, and Sacremento 20 or more times 1 year in my truck. You could try see if you can get something to pay for your fuel and it'll feel a little nicer on the wallet. I love I-80 drive all the way across the country.

I can, sort of, understand you wanting to "Cannonball" across the US. However, as you may know, you will be missing some beautiful country, especially in the mountainous Western US.



This is great country. Why not take a little time & see some of it. You'll never regret it.



If the "Cannonball" is what you really want to do, it's better than not coming out West, at all.

You could do some seriously great sightseeing in southern Utah (five gorgeous national parks in the red rock country south of I-70) and northern Arizona (Grand Canyon) in December.



If you're not too unlucky it'll be sunny and beautiful much of the time, although rather cool. And there will be nobody out there. Take good shoes for walking, a variety of cool-weather coats (gore-tex is great if you're a hiker) and a camera.



If you like the outdoors and have not yet seen the red rock, it'll knock your socks off.

Its not NY 2 LA but when I bought my 92 it was in Peru Ill. I flew out on wednesday morning from SFO to Midway in Chicago. Started driving at about 3 pm Ill time. Got back to Modesto Fridaynight. Drive, Eat, Drive, Sleep, Drive.

If you take I-40 West, you will go through Albuquerque. The best and cheapest place to purchase diesel is a Phillip 66 on North 4th and Montano. If your looking for great New Mexican food, go to Little Anita's on Alameda Blvd and Correlas Road just across the Rio Grande. Watch for snow and ice between Grants, NM and the New Mexico/Arizona state line. If I can be of help, PM me.

Sorry friend but the real sites are in the WEST - and I grew up in Northcentral PA..... but they require a lifetime to see.....
