First of all eliminate the US GEAR. Then you have three good brakes to choose from. First the BD is has the most retarding hp and cost the most and has the shortest warranty. The Jacobs is approved by cummins and has the least rhp but a good warranty of 5/100,000. The Pac-Brake which is what I have has about the same rhp as the BD and the warranty and price of a Jacobs. They are all good brakes and everyone has their favorite. I like the Pac because it has a long warranty and good rhp. It was simple to put on, there was no drilling to do and the kit came with everything you need. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to put on and it works great. Just my opinion.

I agree with Phil, am in the process of putting a Pac Brake on the '01. I also had one on my '96 and was extremely satisified and only had the 30# valve springs.

I went with the BD brake on mine. My reasoning is that it has more rhp down low in the rev's than the others. It has a variable valve so that it can provide optimum braking over a wider rpm range than the others. The Pac brake (which would have been my other choice) is an all or nothing brake. I also like the throttle switch on the BD brake (Pac uses the same method I think) as opposed to the Jacobs because I was able to adjust it such that I can move the throttle slightly and have it off of the brake but still at idle. I don't think that's possible with the Jacobs as it's getting it's throttle position through the ECM. Also the vacuum cylinder on the BD is WAY bigger than the others.

I was going to go with the BD but I couldn't justify the price and warranty that pac has. The BD is probably the strongest brake and I like the adjustment that it has but with the warranty behind the Pac it was easy for me. The BD was deffinently my second choice over the e-brake. Just my opinoin.

Just a note on the E-Brake (Jacobs), as long as u r "fueling" the eng, the brake is not "connected" by the ECM. Slight Go Pedal pressure shuts it off. When you lift the forest stomper off the pedal it take 2-3 seconds to "kick in" and on the previous post (e-brake) I had one morn where it didnt kick in when I started the truck. Had to "tap" the pedal to get it ON. Evidently the cable/pedal had just enuff pressure from the shutdown to give the eng fuel and keep the ECM from connecting the brake.
I went with the Jcobs due to warranty issues and felt the extra rhp was not needed as the eng does have some rhp by itself. Ican almost stop the truck COMPLETELY by downshifting and using 1st gear.

I agree with Steve. In addition, I would like to point out that the BD exhaust brake is by far the best choice for us "auto. " guys, as we can use all the help we can get! With the use of either the BD TorqLoc or AutoLoc computer or a "mystery switch", you really only have good retarding hp. while the TCC is locked in O/D or third. The superior retarding hp. figures exhibited by the BD brake allow us "auto. " guys enough retarding hp. to properly brake our loads without having to use second gear (no TCC lock up = HIGH transmission temperatures) in most circumstances. The addition of (at least) BD's PressureLoc would also be a good idea. The PressureLoc will apply an additional 20-30 psi. of pressure to keep the TCC from slipping.

Another point of interest: The BD exhaust brake poses almost NO exhaust restriction whereas, the others pose at least some, one most notably, more than the others.
