As my odometer approaches 165k its once again time to head to the tire shop. Anybody had any experience with Nitto tires? Thinking about Terra Grapplers in a 305 70 16. They look nice and are cheap, but are they worth a darn?

I was shopping for tires this week after I lost the tires and the money after agreeing to buy a set off the Diesel Stop. Our boy told me about the Nittos and I was told they are very well respected. I was surprised how reasonably priced they were for the high temp , traction, and wear ratings they have. I also liked the tread design. Looks like a good deal to me.

Are the Nittos available in the 305/70/16??

Yep! I answered my own question as I hit the button. I'm actually looking for the 315/70/16s.

I was looking at those myself... 305/70/16. They look good and come in load range E.

Hurry up and buy yours and let me know how they are. . :-laf :-laf

you guys talking about tires, mine needs some to i have a 2001 dually how big can i go, i can space the rear if i have to. i would like to go to a 315 but i may have to stick with a 285... thanks

Am on my second set of Terragrapplers, (265/75/16/E), got 50K off last set. Would have been more but I ran them too hard - 70/65 psi. Good snow and wet handling, light mud seemed good also. Bought from Discount Tire locally with dynamic balance, which made for a lot less wheel weights. For the money, they're not a bad tire.

I ran the 305's for over 60k.

They Rock!!!

Still got tread on them, but got a deal on 315 Toyos (same tire). Oo.

I have been running the 305/ 70/ 16 Terra grapplers for about a year and a half now, have about 28k on them and love em, had to get a second set as the first set were load range D, they were really mushy, all over the road, But the E's are great! I only had the D's for a few days.

just wanted to add a footnote, I bought the Nittos and they were bald at 11,000 miles. The firestone steeltex exploder tires had 60,000 on the one that didn't blow out in comparison.

They are swesome!! We put them on a lot of stuff at the shop I work at, and haven't had any problems. I have them on my truck too, and have about 5k on them so far. Just keep them rotated and you should get plenty out of them.

I've got Nitto Terra's in 285X16 E's on my 4x4 01, had them for two years/60k miles and will probably replace them in the spring. They need to be rotated on a regular basis (about 6k miles) but they are good tires in snow and rain and mud. A set on a company Ford 350 4x4 are 285X17 E's haven't been so good. They have about 25 k miles on them and are not wearing well, part of it is the ford (been aligned twice and new tie rod ends), used up the OEM tires at 20k miles - that combined with the way it is driven would account for some of the wear. I'm happy with mine and will buy then again. I use Centermatics with them. It was an internet purchase from Discount Tire w/ free shipping.

I just took my 305/70-16's off. I got about45k out of them and off'd them before the snow starts to fly. I had a little premature wear, but I can't blame anybody but myself for that. I wanted a more aggressive tire again, with a white letter so I opted for a change.

Wow. I just realized I started this thread, back when I was shopping for my last set of tires, in 2004. So I did buy them... and they lasted me till a couple weeks ago. Pic in above post is with tires I got to replace the Nittos. According to the first post, I only got 35k out of the Nittos. It looks like I had 165k on when I was shopping for them. I have to correct myself there... I am now finally nearing 200k, within a trip to town nearing!
