Is there a law in texas that says all vehicle has to have a muffler? I am wanting to put dual stacks on my dodge and was wondering if anyone has any run ins with the law or during inspection? Does anyone have pics of dual stacks on a reg cab 94 and up ram?

Take a look at the picture at the bottom of the "March 17 2001 meeting" on the St Louis TDR members page.
This is a picture of BIG-DQ's truck.

I have been looking for that pic for awhile. That is exactly what I am going to do. Can you get me some info on his exhaust? Length of stack, routing and so on. Thanks.

I will send Don a message and let him tell you about it.

I have stacks on mine. No muffler or Cat, just 4" from the H2E straight to a 4" splitter, into 4" flex, over the Frame rails to a 4" 90, which feeds into a 4" to5" adapter. this is connected to a pair of 5" angle cut chrome stacks, that measure 48". This seems to work pretty good. Those stacks act as megaphones and produce, what I feel is a very sweet, mellow and soothing sound. Nothing like the roar of a mighty Cummins as it motors down the road. I have right at one grand in parts, although with some smart shopping you could find the parts cheaper.

How did you mount the 5" stacks in the bed, did you use a rubber grommet to secure the pipe from moving around? How did you finish the hole off?

I believe the correct term for the pipes that Big DQ has is curved tip. As for 1K in his exhaust mods, two 48" long 5" chrome stacks will cost as much or more than most complete 4 inch exhaust systems. My single 4 inch stack with aluminized pipes and Walker 21471 muffler cost me $496 at jobber pricing. All parts from NAPA.

Hey guys, I'm sorry for not posting sooner, but I thought I had posted on the 24th. Go Figure. Anyway the stacks I bought, were listed in the 2000 Napa HD truck as Angle Cut stacks. I questioned this myself, as I wanted, what I thought were Curved stacks. The counter guy called Napa, and was told Angle Cut was the correct term. The straight pipes that are cut on an angle are called Slant Cut, if that makes sense. And yes I do have over 1 grand in exhaust, the stacks alone were over $300. 00 apiece.

I guess we need to be careful in what name we use in ordering stuff from different companies. At NAPA, I looked in their catalog and pointed to a picture of the one I wanted. They did not have a 60" long pipe in stock so I had to order a 24" ID-OD and a 36" curved angle tip pipe and connect them with a band clamp. No chrome in stock either, but the aluminized pipe matches nicely with my aluminum flatbed. My 36" pipe cost $148. What a rip off for a short piece of tubing, but no other place here had them.

Koa Man,check out some truck supply houses,I got all my stuff for stacks from a place here in sj/ca 45$ for 10'piece of aluminized steel,it welds up very nicely, also fittings are available 4'' 90deg ell 35$ prices are really not that bad,and with a little imagination there is no limit, your truck is very cool i'm sure you get alot of compliments. well i will be putting pics up all over this web site real soon my stacks are getting powder coated now. c-ya, jdm joe

Joe,
When NAPA did not have chrome pipes in stock and told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks to "special order", I did check out the two heavy truck equipment places we have here. Asked them about 4" pipes and reply was, "oh we don't carry anything that small, all our pipes are 5 inch. " Anyway, managed to get the whole thing done for just under $500 and real happy with the results. Reason I did not go with 5 inch pipes was to avoid the extra work for clearance and it would not provide any additional EGT or performance benefits.

Koa Man, You are right about the performance and egt's,but there is an equally important part of high performance to consider. Sound. The 5" stacks act as megaphones, to give the truck an awesome sound achieved by no other exhaust I've ever heard.
Don

All you guys with stacks need to post pictures. Are all of them mounted in the bed? Dual Stacks? Is your truck a 2500 or 2500?
