WWII Story

Happy B-Day to my Truck!!

Yeah right. Let's see, 182mph that's about 3 miles per minute. Before that cop got up to 80mph the guy would have been 5 miles down the road (i. e. , out of sight).

I would think if he had any alcohol in him and was going 182 he probably would have ended up wiping out. That almost sounds like the BS meter is pegged. I guess anything is possible, just hard to believe:D

If the cop was driving a Crown Vic. it would be more like 10 miles down the road .

The officer did not say he was going 182 at any time other when he went through the radar; might have emidiately slowed due to traffic, seeing the patrol car, curves or what ever.

Other than the details, it sounds like any one of a thousand or so DUI cases I have tried.

Ever watch the "cops" or "most dangerous drivers" on TV?

The description of the guys behavior is classic of the "bombed" driver.

I have also heard dozens of cases much like that except that the trial was for "Negligent Homicide" when the driver was not lucky enough to be found by an officer before he killed someone. In an incredible number of those, when the officers were dragging the drunk out of his/her car/truck, he/she was protesting being hasseled yelling they had not done anything-----till they saw the body(s) of their victims.

Ooopss, did not intend a sermon, but with more people killed by people driving while impaired each year than we lost in Nam total, it is serious business.

Vaughn,

I agree, the idiot factor is understood here. I was just making light of the whole thing. "The brother didn't do nuthin" Yeah right.

Re:182 mph. Eric, think about some of these cars out on the road today. Without researching, I would say there are plenty that will see at least near that number in short order. They better be just as quick to shut down though.

A crown vic takes about 20 seconds to get to 80 and has a top spped of about 110 with a light bar on it (and a tail wind:D )

only reason this guy got caught was because he was driving a Lamborgini, easy to spot, if he had been driving a hopped up mustang or a Corvette, odds are the police officer would not have found him after being that far behind at the outset

if the same stadards that apply to murder trials were used for police radar, it would never be allowed to be used as evidence in court, I know from personal experience that on some vehicles (motorcycles especially) that it would be more accurate for a blind guy to listen to the vehicle and say, "it is going X speed"

I think drunk driving should be a felony, but the standards in current use are too vague
