If you were in wash state and in the middle of your 1000 acre estate, you would still be commiting a felony

Well as far as I can tell Washington is due West of here by a few hundred miles & Montana starts with an "M" not a "W" not to be a smart xxx which is REALLY HARD for me to do. Montana has always been the state of choice for me. Not because of the liberal gun laws but it's beautiful and where the wife's family is from. She wanted to retire in Commiefornia until the last 10 years we worked when they let all the trash from south of San Diego in & all the hollyweird dummies make the choices for the working people.

By the way we've grown just a tad!! Its 1000 acer's on our side of the road & 1500 on the other side. 2500 in St Ignatius & 4000 acer's in Polebridge. Still a hobby farm in Montana.

No its not Penny's & Mine we started with 35 acer's her Father & Brother retired & live part time in Las Vegas & Here. They singed over their 400 to Penny & I & bought the rest in our Sons business. Anything we own is in Penny's name. I knew that marriage to a Blackfoot has it tax advantages. Not really her family are the smart ones :D I just tag along for the ride

Yeh I know, wash sucks big time. But the discussion was about how worthless the nra is and my original point was that this law was passed in wash with a lot of money from out of state and the nra offered NOTHING to try to stop it.

we had the same problem here in Cal. ( STUPID laws) and a lot of people had the same thoughts as you about the NRA. well the NRA has some of the finest LEGAL minds in the U.S. and when the supreme court went down to only 8 members, the NRA slowed way down on litigating cases, because if the 8 judges locked at 4 to 4 ,the lower state court ruling would stand. when we finally get the 9th judge back on the court, I think we`ll see the NRA get back into high gear going after these STUPID laws.

In the later 1960's, I lived near Tacoma, WA. for a little over 2-1/2 years, while in the military, and then was stationed north of San Francisco, CA. for a number of months. I, especially, loved living in WA. and am surprised at what people are telling us what it is now like, there. Same with CA.
Originally, I'm from Detroit, MI. and while I was in the military, there were 2 riots where significant parts of the city were burned during both riots. I went back to Detroit after completing my military obligation and could not believe the difference in the quality of life in Detroit. Everyone seemed to be scared to death of another riot. The folks that did the rioting promised that the next riot, they would not be burning their own houses but, go out a little further to do their burning.
My father was a college professor at the Univ. of Detroit and never hunted or seemed interested in shooting. However, when I got back home, the house had loaded guns around the house and my brother & I received a revolver and rifle, each, for birthday's and Christmas. I asked my Dad what his reasoning was for arming the house and he told me that while walking around the neighborhood, after the rioter's promise, the men had gotten together and formed a plan to defend our neighborhood. My Dad did not have any means to defend his family or the neighborhood and felt he needed to contribute to the protection of his family and neighborhood and not rely on the other men to protect him and his family. So, he decided to study up on weapon's and arm himself and his family.
Detroit had some of the strictest gun laws in the country and also, had some of the highest murder rates in the country. If there was ever a town where you NEEDED a gun for protection, Detroit was it, at the time.
It got bad enough that, after my Dad passed away in 1973, the rest of us started to migrate to the Phoenix, AZ. area. We wanted to get away from the "war zone" lifestyle and the lousy weather, especially, in the winter months.
After moving to AZ., I called the local Sheriff's Office to find out what I needed to do to register my guns, like I had to do in MI. I will always remember the person on the other side of the phone telling me, "Son, you now live in AZ. You don't have to register any guns, here. Just go out into the desert and enjoy shooting, safely". That's when I knew I had made the right decision as to where to live!!!! What a difference from Detroit!!!!
In recent years, the influx of people into AZ. from many other parts of the country, especially CA. and some other left wing states, has things changing, here. There is a lot more effort being made by the government to control what and where we can do and go. A number of years ago, I went up to Payson, AZ. (a wonderful small town N/E of Phoenix and noticed a new police dept. bldg. and fire dept. bldg. along with cars and trucks. I asked the guy sitting next to me in the Beeline Cafe how he liked living in Payson and he told me that the personality of the town had changed since all the Californian's had moved in, sold their homes in CA. and bought nice homes in Payson for a lot less than they got for their homes in CA. He went on to tell me that all the new buildings are nice but, the Californian's have brought their leftwing idea's with them and there are so many of them and they have money and have become powerful. The town is no longer the nice, small, friendly town it used to be. A guy I met from Prescott, AZ. told me the same thing, also.
It's such a shame to watch my state change to something I don't completely recognize, anymore. It's not all that bad here, yet but, seems to be heading in the wrong direction.
It's such a shame that the Californian's want to get out of CA. but, the first thing they do in their new state is try to make CA. out of it!!!! Why ruin my state???
I know this is not true with all Californian's but, there are enough of them doing this that you hear about it. I feel sorry for you guys that are living in those leftwing states and just wish you could get out. I hope you can get out but, please, don't bring that kind of thinking to your new state. A couple of you guys were upset with what was going on in WA. and blamed it on migration of Californian's into the state, changing attitudes of WA.'s citizens and now you are losing your rights and there are enough people that think like that, now, that is't OK. It's not OK for everyone. Otherwise, those folks and I wouldn't be complaining about changes that are taking place that don't respect our rights.
The world is full of places to live where they think with leftwing attitudes and values. Why not go to Canada, Europe, Australia, etc. and live among like minded people, instead of ruining what we already have.
I don't mean to offend anyone with my comments but, reading this thread just started my blood boiling. I love living in AZ. with what it's values used to be and I hate seeing people moving in here and changing the values, to accommodate their way of thinking. Where are you going to go after destroying our value system? Go back to the place that already has your value's instead of ruining ours.
Again, I don't mean to offend anyone but, some things just need to be said and this platform showed up. I'm not sorry for what I said as, I really mean it and so do many other's, here. Actually, WE are the ones that should feel offended. We just want to be left to live in peace and not have values that we don't agree with forced down our throats and it seems that these folks are coming after us, where ever we move to.
Joe

Amazing telling of your family in Detroit and your take on what the trend is in many places. Indeed it's spreading like cancer. Living in what is (was) a conservative part of a left city, I can truly relate!
We are looking to get out and more now than ever I see the relation between government presence, even with basic municipal services, and the freedom factor of a locality.
I promise not to bring disease to my new hometown, when I resettle. The job will be to convince my new neighbors that I'm not one of them! Perhaps my choice of truck will help with that!

Great read Joe. I to watched the slow evolution (over 40 years), the influx of violence, burglaries and liberal way of thinking that they want to impose on everyone. Arizona is not what it use to be for sure. It's a shame what is happening and probably will never get close to the State it use to be.

Dave

You are spot on Joe. I had a employee that was from Virginia and he decided to go back . My wife and I went on vacation there and met up with him in Charlottesville where he lived he said that the state used to be very conservative and that the libs from DC and surrounding areas moved in and have been changing things. I'm sure that's why those statues were never an issue.

Pretty much all of the states bordering Ca and the next state beyond is experiencing this. OR, WA, ID, AZ, NV, CO, MT are all on the chopping block.

Appears to be the logical choice, but even they can not stomach living under the weight of a heavy government thumb.

Good read Joe..... But I just want to point out and make it clear that not all Californians are liberal left wing socialist extremists. Unlike the cliche rhetoric most Americans think about us folks from CA, geographically most of the state is comprised of pragmatic conservative thinkers who simply want the same basic constitutional rights found in the rest of the country.

Yes, many CA residents are seeking a less Hilter type legislation, so we find them fleeing in record numbers. Even the lefties are getting tired of it as well... Fun fact for all reading, CA is the only state in the nation which is loosing population. So if Governor Brown continues to shove his backwards ideological policies onto the tax paying citizens of this state, it wont be long before the golden state will look very similar to the run down socialist city of Detroit.....with a little Spanish flair to it, as more and more illegals pour across the border.

On Oct. 21, 1976, I arrived in what was to be my new home of Phoenix, AZ. I have not, ever, regretted that move. I don't know how I got so lucky or whether I deserved to have such an opportunity. I was not the type to make significant moves and, this was a significant one. I started a business that prospered and afforded me a nice life. I'm not wealthy but, don't owe anyone any money and haven't for years. I really feel blessed!!!!
Once again, in no way do I think that everyone in CA., WA., OR. or any other state that has a left wing government, agree's with those government value's. I, personally, know good friends that live in CA. and WA. that are not left wing thinker's and appreciate the freedom's that many of us enjoy & don't want to give up. My guess is that the majority of voter's in those area's are electing like-minded thinker's into office and create the government they want. That does not, at all, mean that "everyone" in those state's feels the same way. This is one of the things that worries me about AZ. So many people are moving in that the electorate is changing and we are getting more liberal Democrat's voting and they are swaying the elections. Consequently, we have had a Democrat Mayor, here, for quite awhile, now. What have we gotten for that is a light rail system that cost us billion's in taxes and it still is not enough to cover the costs of operating that program. So, they have to raise taxes to cover a system that few people are able to use. Then, they eliminate free parking on the street's in the inner city area's by putting parking meter's up everywhere. So, if you go downtown to see a ballgame or show at the convention center, you have to keep running back to the parking meter every couple of hours to re-feed the machine. This is to encourage people to park on the outskirts of town and take the light rail in to town. Now, I don't go downtown, anymore!!!! That's the way in which I can protest. The city government has said that they want all of us to live in the inner city and not spread out the the suburbs (urban sprawl). I feel that it is another way to keep us under control. If we are all in one small location, they can more easily watch what we are doing.
I really feel sorry for those that have lived their entire lives in the Phoenix area and have had to put up with all the changes that the new resident's have brought with them. I've talked to any number of them and they are rightfully angry with those that have migrated here. Now, I feel the way they do and sympathize with them.
When I first moved here, I didn't realize that people could actually "open carry" handguns on the street's and in public. I was amazed but, I wonder if that is the reason we don't have as much crime, here, as we did in my hometown of Detroit. People that have the right to be armed seem to treat other's with more respect. We do have crime, here but, nowhere to the extent that Detroit and Chicago have it. I feel MUCH safer here. We are supposed to be the kidnapping capitol but, if you notice, it seems to almost always be crime against the illegals that have come here.
As regards the NRA, I bought a lifetime membership a few years ago. I also, joined the AZ. Citizens Defense League, Inc. (which, I have to renew) and feel since I'm able to enjoy my Second Amendment Rights, here, I'd better support those organization's that are making an effort to protect those rights. I've lived where I could not exercise those right's and living in a place where you can exercise them is much preferred, in my opinion.
Thank you, all, for allowing me to exercise my Freedom of Speech Rights, here, and for not throwing rotten vegetable's at me.

Most of wash is conservative. All of it used to be. But people learned about seattle and the libs started moving here in the 80's. They came from cal, ny, and other liberal areas. Most live in seattle and the king county area. A small area geographically, but they control how the state goes. There are 39 counties in wash. I think it is 30 that vote rep. If only we could kick seattle out of the state.

This is similar to Ca. Essentially, two small areas (Bay Area/ LA) of Ca control the entire state. Once a person ventures beyond those borders, it conservative country.

When I lived in WA., I used to go up to Seattle many times per week for the nightlife. I thought it was a beautiful city and always enjoyed my stay's there. In fact, on many Saturday's, I used to go up to the northern part of Seattle and have lunch at the only Big Boy restaurant in the state. Where I grew up in Detroit, we had a Big Boy's near my home and I loved their burger's, fries and coffee.
After having my burger lunch, I would drive back to McChord AFB, take a nap, shower, get dressed up and head back to Seattle for the nightlife. If memory serves me right, I used to go to a place called the Wharf which, at the time was a nice nightclub. As I recall, the house band was called the Back Porch Majority, a fun band.
I still keep in touch with an old service buddy that lives in Edmond's, WA.
While in CA., I was stationed at Travis AFB just outside of Fairfield, CA. It wasn't that far (70 miles) from San Francisco and I used to go there many times per week. That was a fun town. Lots of hippies, there at that time and there was one street, which, I can't remember it's name but, it had a lot of small nightclubs with great entertainment and a lot of strip club joints. I saw Buddy Rich the drummer there and Gladys Knight and the Pipps were at another club but, they were pretty new, at the time (1969) and I had not heard of them. I just remember the name "Pipps" and didn't think that I wanted to pay good money to see a band with that weird name (Boy, was I wrong!!!!!). The character's walking up and down that street were really fun to watch. It was kind of like a West Coast version of Times Square in NY.
CA. has probably more nice country than any other state in the Union. It's really quite amazing. As a kid, I remember thinking that it must be the greatest place on earth!!!
Unfortunately, I worry about going to CA. because of their strict gun laws. I like to keep a handgun with me whenever possible and feel uncomfortable with one while in CA. I worry about just having one in the truck or trailer. In fact, when I bought my pocket knife, I researched the CA. laws to find a knife that would be acceptable to the CA. police. I think I could carry a samurai sword, here in AZ.!!!
Once again, I apologize for any offense that any of you may have taken from my comments on this thread. This just happened to be a golden opportunity to express how I have been feeling on this subject, for quite awhile. From the response's to my comments, it seems that I'm not the only one that feel this way. To those of you that have defended your states, I respect your feelings, also, and agree that it seems that the progressive, left wing thinking is centered in the large metropolitan area's of these states. It's happening in my state of AZ. Phoenix is turning more progressive all the time and I think much of it stems from those migrating into AZ. That's what really worries me!!! I'd hate for it to become so uncomfortable that I'd want to move somewhere else as, I've already moved, once and don't really want to do it again. I like the state!!!
Thanks for all your replies and it has been very interesting to hear what you all are thinking on this subject. It's actually been kind of fun blowing off some steam!!!
