I'm looking at swaping out my 47rh for a NV4500. I seem to remember reading that the automatic and standard do not share the same bell housing adapter on the back of the block. Just curious if anyone has done this swap and could verify that. Thanks for the help in advance.

They are the same. This was covered in a thread a year or two ago, with pictures. IIRC it was the later years NV5600 that was different. The first NV5600s had an adapter plate for the starter, then the extra thickness was added to the adapter. You can use yours for a G56 conversion as well.

Thanks for the replys all. CNorthrup, I'm in northern AZ. Mine is 4x4 as well. I'm interested in a swap, but my auto will not work in a 98. The 96 and up trucks use the 47RE which is close, but does not have the same electrical setup in the valve body. The RH can be made into a RE with a case, valve body, output shaft, and a couple other odds and ends. Let me know if u are still interested, I might be able to come up with the trans you need. The steering colum for both trans. should interchange, as well as the shift/throttle linkage, so I got ya covered there.

I do not want an RE, I already have one from a 2001. I don't like electronics. I want the RH transmission. Not worried about the column either.

Ok, well let me know. It does take a while 2 shift into 2nd gear, I was gonna pull and clean/inspect the valve body just haven't had time. Other than that it seems to do good. Whar kinda shape is your 4500 in?

The truck has 240k on it. The guy I bought it from say's he serviced it religiously so... It seems ok. Have not driven it much. Have to replace seats in it.

ok good to know. My trans has 208,000 on it. I've had the truck for about 6 months now and haven't put many miles on it either. I mainly use it to haul firewood. Just curious why you are switching to auto?

Tired of shifting and my wife won't drive a standard. I put a built auto from Goerend with the triplelock converter in a friends 99 and my six speed has nothing on the auto but two extra gears! I used to haul cars for a living and pulled heavy all the time with a five speed but now would not be one bit afraid of pulling the same loads with the auto! I have built many Mopar trannies including the one in the 93 that I had and never had any problems with them. With how well developed the converter's are I think they are just as good as having a standard trans. I know a bunch of you will say I am crazy but that is how I feel. I also drive truck for a living now and just get tired of shifting after I get out of it.
