2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission OEM Transmission in my 1999 3500 Dually Dodge with

Hello to everyone on this forum. I finally decided to join after years of learning and watching my belated fiance James discussing diesel trucks over seven years at least. I bought a 1999 3500 Turbo diesel Dodge with an automatic brand new in March of 1999. James and I had done many different mods even the N25 on my automatic transmission.

I am not one to brag but I wanted to let everyone here know what a great truck I have had. I have over 322K miles on her putting out 39 boost with the following OEM parts -- OEM transmission, rear end (with new clutch plates at 318947 miles), OEM turbo, motor and OEM shifter with other smaller OEM parts. I did try to attach a picture of the miles she has to date. I have worked as an electro mechanical technician until there were no more manufacturing plants for my experience so I ended up working with James, who was a diesel mechanic on heavy equipment, farming equipment plus Dodge trucks. I had done my own work on my farm equipment plus diesel truck but James taught even about the over sized pipe, Edge attitude, Smarty chip, Bosh injectors, air dog fuel system plus more for the older diesel trucks he had were up to 12 with 5 pieces of heavy equipment. Even the 2007 Dodge truck of his he bought brand new we installed the EGR delete kit.

Many of the mods he did he learned on his own plus this forum. I look forward to learning even more. Thanks for reading my post.

I would say you are certainly in the minority having that good of service out of a 47re. When I bought my former 00 it still had the original trans at 270k but I couldn't even download a moderate catcher tune on the smarty without experiencing some serious TC shudder under acceleration. It Got pulled shortly after that for a rebuild and I still have that trans in my 98.5.

What is the N25 mod??

The N25 is a noise filter that was installed on the ECM due to the noise generated by the alternator. Once the OEM alternator is replaced then there are issues with the Over Drive switch going off and on simulating as if the transmission is slipping when it really was not. You see Chrysler does not have the voltage regulator in their alternators like other automotive manufactures. Instead the voltage is regulated by their ECM. So when the replacement Chinese alternators are installed this issues occurs.

So one independent engineers designed this filter which is also used for reducing noise on stereos came up with two ways of installing the filter so you would no longer have that problem. Here is the link for the product in which I installed. I thought I needed a new transmission but to me it acted like a ground problem. So when James showed me this filter with the type up on this forum I had it installed so the problem went away. That was five years ago I still have my OEM transmission. I just hope posting this thread does not change that LOL

The PCM has the VR integrated into it so no need for the alternator to have one. The noise you are filtering is AC noise from having bad diode(s) in the alternator...this can happen with OEM altenators but it seems more frequent with reman. Either they are using very cheap diodes or maybe they don't even replace them, I'm not sure but the trick is if you must buy one is either spring for new or test the new reman unit with a multimeter for any AC noise. Anything above about .01 Volts AC is a fail and will cause the lock/unlock issues with the TC.

In the event that mine goes bad I will test it for AC voltage and if it's clean I'll just rebuild mine.
