TMTT,

I had a '99 for 6 years, (close to) two payments left. I stopped by to "do the math". I drove home wiht an '04. 5 325/600. 1,000 miles later it yulled my 11K 5er over high point mountain, like it wasn't there. Has take me to work reliably and to Virginia two times. Great truck on the road. Not a sincle maint issue.

Milage - Horrible about 13. Yes, I have one, Yes I drive it every day - aboyt 40 mi RT to work. Probably should get the reflash, I hear it helps a little.

Quite - Wife and neighbors love it. Probably earier to make power - havent tried yet.

Downside - Light up a modified second gen and you know you are in a diesel and a great one at that. Sit at a light and even in the winter you roll the window down to listen.

Can't knock a toy drove one fo the cars when I used to put on 70 K a year.

It's really an emotional decision. As klenger said - which one do you really want. You are going to sit in it a long time and write a lot of checks. What makes you smile. Diesel prices come and go.

Emotionally - I want my '99 back, just loved building and driving it. Practically - drove off the lot for about the same $$ / mo. didn't have to fix a thing.

Just my $. 02

was that empty mileage? :--) Man I get between 21-22 with my 610 motor that everyone thinks is pig. Of course the TST added between 2-3 MPG to the factory 18-19 mpg.

3rd gen trucks are nice, i feel the new jap trucks are little pricey... ... Some thing are refined. Thinner sheet metal on 3rd gens.

Erik

Thinner sheet metal? Prove it.

TMTT, that dang music is ANNOYING!

I had a 2002 Tacoma and really liked it and the new one looks sweet. Mine had the 3. 0 V6 and it could not pull the load I needed it for so I traded it for the Dodge. The Dodge is definitely more heavy duty and I think you would miss the torque but the Toyota will definitely be better off road. If you do little towing I think you will like the Toyota and it's probably made in the USA unlike the Dodge.

That 4. 0L Tacoma now gets 17 Town and 24 Hwy which supprised me but it has that new VVTi setup and it has a ton of low and mid range grunt for a v config six.

Hey let me ask you guys something. The loading height on the 3rd gens vs the 2nd gens . . are they any different? I was thinking today that the height on mine is a bit higher because of that camper / hd towing package.

A guy out at work bought a 04. 5 and there is no doubt that the sheet metal is waaaayyyyyy thinner on it as compared to my 02. When the fuel nozzle is stuck in to fuel up , you can go back and look up the side of the bed and see it bending. JMO

TMTT, I cant believe you are even considering getting out of the CTD. What a depressing thought. :(

Yep it sure is! No doubt what so ever. My mind screams love for the truck , reality yells downsize and give the wallet a break that much truck simply is not needed by me , Personality screams "Auugh augh augh" , Police say "Get off the damn Parkway" , Garage yells "You want to park that WHERE?" ,

TMTT: Have to ask with the CTD you had Mini-Me, so with the Toyota would you then have a Maxi-Me :-laf for a toy or would it be a Micro-Me :{ ?

Inquiring :p minds want to know??
