Hello all.

I've never had my oil analyzed, but I'd like to.

Should I assume my dealer is smart enough to handle this? How should the sample be collected? I have visions of my mech ladling filthy oil out of the barrel into a dirty baby food jar before sending it off to be analyzed...

What should I ask for? How should it be done?

Thanks all.

Geno's garage also sells a kit. The kit is aprox $10 & includes the full oil analysis

I use it every third to fourth oil change on all of my trucks. It saved me unscheduled downtime on three trucks(not Dodge)--leaking coolant detection. I was able to schedule the repair while crew was off for the weekend--no down time.

I do my own in my RAM but I also have a CRD Liberty. I took it in for the first change and gave the service writer the bottle for a sample. Biggest problem encountered was he kept trying to talk me out of sending a sample off. Jeep came back with the bottle full in the console. Can only presume it was collected correctly. I have to think so. ;)

I use Blackstone also. They are fast and you can now log onto their website to view a record of all your samples.

I do all my own oil changes, save myself the labor charges, so I collect a sample at every oil change. I use the Geno's kits, buy them by the case, do several different vehicles.

I also send in samples of transmission/diff fluids. You can really tell what's going on with your car/truck from the information gained. They can/will save you in what could be costly repairs of stuff that goes undetected until it breaks. Great way to look at the prevention side.
