Oh well 48k on a 2016 no trailer ever, mostly highway but noticed temps going up a little in traffic 185 is normal oil 187 to 190 then water sitting at a light Saturday am got to 208 oil to 215.

Bottom line failed pressure test. Suspect head gasket failure. While it is down doing the engine stuff doing the water pump recall, replacing all hoses and the serpentine belt, the coolant reservoir which is oil stained now on the inside few other things emissions systems related to be cleaned, filter replaced while it is down.

So much for the Cummins being bullet proof any longer lol.. To be honest looked at everything out there nothing I like better so I am getting it fixed right rather than just what Fiat will do and trade it.

Think the module puts in about 100 or so lbs.. Not a lot and it is not a tuner it goes in line with the injectors so no PCM break in. 'Talked to TS Performance who makes it and they have had no reports of this causing an issue or on the truck there that run them and they tow I do not.

The last Cummins I had the good one lol last year of the 5.7 was 600 hp and 1200 ftlbs no internal engine work programming and big turbo, exhaust/downpipe just transmission modification and ran it almost 150k. No one has suggested that this failure was caused by this but we will see and if Fiat does there is no way for them to prove it without spending a lot of money. Been through this with several manufacturers MM Act and when my litigation attorney gets involved (use him for big stuff on the ranch with oil companies) they capitulate every time. No worries either way will not cost me more than around 3k to 3.5k for all of this unless a head is cracked.

Did spec out a Ford and it came to 86k! With the body style change do not want to buy a 18 RAM. With all of the other mods just got it like I want it with hard rolling cover, kit to mount the larger spare tire and wheel (I rotate 5) in the 5th wheel opening, BDS suspension, lighting mods (fog led fabricated brackets) like to keep it another year at least.

Busadave, if you have lube oil in the coolant the most likely cause is the oil cooler.
only place in the engine where oil under pressure meets the cooling system.

Well that has been eliminated as a possible cause due to the specific test that was run. I am going by there on Friday to look at what is being done and will get more information. I sure wish it was the oil cooler.

what specific test was run?
generally the way to test the oil cooler is to remove the oil cooler core and seal it, put it in a water tank and test it with pressure for leaks.
oil does pass thru the head via an oil gallery to get up to the valve mechanisms, but it doesn't really have a way into the cooling system from there.

Well I got a call yesterday and was in a meeting from the SM to go over this. Will know more when he calls. Sure hope it is the oil cooler!!! Will make the biggest part of the repairs being done go a lot faster. Will also find out about the water pump as well. Really need to go to the ranch in NM this weekend to check on remediation work done (BLM and NMOCD approved the plan) due to a large salt water manifold that failed, spilled about 3k barrels of produced water and contaminated a 1600 yard long area.

I think oil cooler, too. The cooler went bad on my 404 c.i. 6 cyl John Deere irrigation engine. The dealer missed it the first time and did a heap of unnecessary work, costing me and especially him. A minuscule leak that takes a long period of time to get significant oil in the water can be hard to find. I would thoroughly and patiently check the cooler.

Well SM called it is torn down the HG failed the Zone Fiat Ram guy saw it as well. They are putting in new head bolts as well but will not use the aftermarket ones that are stronger so that is a bummer. Everything being done will cost me 2100 out of a total of 6800 but I am having more done that just that repair. Doing the water pump as well (recall), belts, EGR service, hoses, coolant tank that was oil stained and a new fan clutch assy. I drive a lot in the middle of the night through SE NM and far West Texas going back and forth to the ranch and do not like problems.

Will be ready tomorrow evening for a trip to the ranch on Saturday! These guys are good got to tell you. Got everything done in less than a week if it work out.......

The SM said that my TS Stryker Module will be in my front seat lol. Will hook that back up when I get home.

Well Fiat did the right thing here. I am paying for some but hey I run aftermarket stuff however, that this failure was caused by the module is tough to prove. Having good counsel is always a good thing. For me I would have paid for the entire repair --- in the long run this was cheaper for Fiat than dealing with my litigation attorney.

Very arrogant statement Busa Dave - instead of being thankful FCA didn’t void your warranty you threaten litigation. FCA legal department has much deeper pockets than you do. Humbleness, accountability and thankfulness are slowly disappearing in our me me me world.

ok if you say so. Has thrown a code on related to the EGR a few times. Also replaced other things. Were you one of the people that posted about it was the oil cooler lol.....:)
