Is the oil level above the oil pan gasket when the engine is running? How about when it's off? My oil pan gasket is leaking and I'm trying to figure out if it's doing it when it's running or off. It doesn't even leak a quart between changes but it smells when I stop and it's all over everything under the driver's side of the truck. I've already put seals in the vacuum pump and it's dry except for the oil that's blown on it and I replaced the front crank seal when I did the KDP and I know it's dry. I understand it's a major job to replace the oil pan gasket. I can live with a little stink and mess before I shell out major bucks to fix it.

I would say no on both counts. Probably close when not running but I doubt it is over it. Have you checked the pan bolts for torque? 18 ft/lbs I believe. I have a leak too, but I think mine is at the timing gear case gasket. Not bad enough to do anything with it yet. Just makes a mess. Hope a bolt doesn't fall out!

Bolts have been tightened. Believe me, they won't fall out. I'm more concerned at this point about one of them breaking off.
