Hi. After an oil change with 10 1/2 quarts of oil with new oil filter, I’m always at the bottom of the “min” on the dipstick. I drive it an it gets lower unless it sits all night. Still in the “min” range.
Does Outdoorsman model have a larger oil pan? It’s got extra other stuff like skid plates and tow hooks included. It has a deep aluminum oil pan but maybe all Ecodiesels are that way.
How’s everyone else’s oil show on the stick after a change? I don’t like running around low on oil.
Thanks, Herb

The dipstick is difficult to get a good reading with these trucks. Some say it's like a vapor lock and if you pull the dipstick out a little (past the o-ring) it allows the oil to flow up the tube and then you get a more accurate reading when reinserted.

Mine is always at the min. after adding 10.5 quarts no matter how I deal with the dipstick reading technique.

I’ll pull the dipstick out a bit tonight, leave it overnight and see if it changes. I’m also contacting RAM on this issue. Maybe they need to lengthen the darn stick. I like the oil in the higher Max area normally. Any other comments are welcome. Thanks, Herb

It sounds like 10.5 quarts gets you into the "SAFE" range, just lower than you'd like?

Why not add the extra 1/4 or 1/2 quart and keep you higher in the "SAFE" range? I've never owned a vehicle of any make that took exactly what the owners manual states for oil capacity after a change.

It's normal for oil levels to be low after shutting down, it takes a long time for oil to drain back to the pan from all the nooks and crannies.

Actually 10 1/2 quarts barely touched the bottom of min mark area. I wrote FCA about this. It’ll be interesting what they say. I added 3/4 quart of oil to bring it into normal range but wonder if seals are in the oil level now that shouldn’t be. Leaks later. Thanks

Anywhere, after sitting overnight, between min and max is acceptable. Per the owners manual it takes 1.2 quarts to go from min to max.

You're overthinking it. FCA will tell you the same thing, keep it between min and max after sitting overnight.

Today with the dipstick up to allow for vacuum seal overnight, I’m at the top of max with 3/4 quart added. I probably watch the damn level too close but when you’re driving a thousand miles on vacation, I want it right.

I have been doing my oil changes on all my trucks this Eco currently has 73, 248 miles and have had zero problems, cannot say that about my 14 3500 Cummins that truck is a pain!

Sounds perfect.

1000 highway miles is about as easy as it gets for the motor.
