When I drove my truck home from the dealer I noticed that when I hit a severe enough bump the oil pressure would drop out (0psi) but hold 42 psi 99% of the time. It's gotten worse in 12,000 miles but I have no damage, no oil consumption and it still holds 42psi on start up and whenever the guage shows pressure.

I had loose and damaged valve cover gaskets which I replaced today and the engine held 42 psi for 10 miles and when I shut down to fuel the truck I restarted to no pressure on the guage.

Is this a wiring and sensor problem or something else. I've never seen anything like it.

Please make me feel better by saying its the sensor...

If the gauge just suddenly drops to 0 and then comes back on to normal oil pressure it sounds like the oil pressure sensor is going bad or just a bad connection. I would remove the sensor clean (use electrical spray cleaner) and reinstall to make sure it is not a bad connection . If it still acts up I would replace the sensor. Also if the sensor is leaking oil just replace it . Hope this helps. Rich

Just change out the sending unit. (sensor) Get one from Cummin's or the dealer. Dealer will cost twice as much as Cummin's. The after market ones don't seem to last.
