Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil pressure

My oil pressure gage is hitting 80 psi before I start my truck. then it just stays there and never moves could it be a a bad oil pressure sending unit?

Sounds like it is a bad sending unit.

You could try unplugging the sender to see if it is the sender or a problem elsewhere.

My sending unit just went the other day. I about had a heart attack when my check gauges light came on and my oil pressure was reading zero. I checked everything and the engine is running fine but it threw a 0522 code, which is a low voltage warning for the oil pressure sensor.



These things must be made of gold. My local deal wants $240 for it. Cummins also carries one for less but it comes with a catch, they told me they'd have to reflash my ECM because their's uses a different harness. So much for that idea, since I have a CaTCHER ECM and don't want anything to do with a reflash.



I ended up ordering one from Mopar4less for just under $160 shipped.

wow, you'd think a sending unit would be just, a, well, a sending unit... besides the internals isn't there just a spade connection and a threaded connection?

If it's a Cummins ISB you need P/N 5012991AB SENSOR, Oil Pressure, Diesel Engine

I don't think you'll find it cheaper than here:

The part number I was given from the dealers was 5012991AD. Thomas, how do you get it to show you the diesel parts? I was only able to drill to gas senders.

No drilling needed. I used the model year 2000 parts catalog to come up with 5012 991AA ETC SENSOR, Oil Pressure, Diesel Engine

Searching at Jack Miller All Chrysler Parts brought up the item at the bottom of my first post along with "Part number 5012991AA was superceded by part number 5012991AB. "

The last letter of parts numbers changing is but an indication of part revisions.

I have no idea of the original posters model year number and have no idea of what changes were made to get the part number to 5012991AD,

Strange, I have my signature checked to be shown in my control panel options. Anyway, I have a 2001 ETH motor.

Your information shows up fine. As I stated (with a punctuation error), it's the original poster's (TBrock's) model year number I don't know about.

My new sending unit fits a 1-1/16 long socket. That same socket won't fit on the origional one on the truck. Does anyone know it's size or what special tool is required?

I just changed mine with this geneuin Cummins part and it works perfectly. I had to remove the fuel filter and push it out of the way without disconnecting the line to the injection pump. I have a FASS so the input was already flexible.

Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement

The original oil pressure sending unit takes a 1 1/4" socket. If you break off the electrical connector on the old unit, a shallow socket will fit. The replacement is a Cummins P/N 4921511. Cost at Cal Pacific Cummins in El Cajon out the door is $103. You will need a 1 1/16" deep socket to install it. It will require removing the fuel filter and two screws (10mm) holding the harness. It is located aft of the ECM under the harness break out.
