Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil pressure

for those that have had an oil pressure sending unit go bad. did you have symptoms like this? oil pressure goes down to zero for a while, then goes to a heigh level and stays there for a while. it always seems to be zero or very high (+40)and only sometimes is it normal. it just scares the crap out of me, even though i know i have oil pressure.
