CAC pressure test setup (for all gens)

The only place I have seen the CEM-TEC's was on Piers' web site. They sell them as their preferred FASS replacement filter. I ended up grabbing a couple of the Donaldson P169392's from my local Freightliner dealer in town.

Anyone interested... . DPP, maker of FASS and HPFP (FASS II) now has a much needed warrantee contact and customer service person!

His name is Dan... good friend of mine, and very knowledgable about FASS. He moved to Missouri form Texas to work there and is "the horses mouth" so to speak! The company trying to fill the knowledge gap between how little some dealers know and all the misconceptions out there. For example... the new brushless, lifetime motors are a major upgrade. Should be looked at as big plus... . IMO.

Dan can be reached at -- email address removed --

Hope this will help anyone with questions :)

And as with anything new introduced... no matter how much testing is done, the "real" testing comes when the unit is placed into service on a truck that sees temps from -25*F to 115*F, getting shaken around, salt sprayed on, stones kicked at, etc... this kind of testing is too costly to reproduce in the lab and you cannot justify testing XXX units to see if all of them behave in the same manor. In most cases a certain amount of "real world" testing is done by the consumers... the first rendition of the FASS is a good example (if they had tested them in all conditions, they would have seen that there was a potential issue with the brushes, correct???)

My comment about being a "test mule" is correct... as far as I was concerned, no one had the new motor design... therefore I was one of the first to have a new piece to try out in real world testing... I must say, so far so good and I would buy another one in a minute.

Now, after getting my blood pressure up over this and your critical PM about how WRONG I was... since you think this thread is SO wrong, then ask the mods to delete it... I don't care.

I'm off my soapbox.

Sorry if my PM bothered you... No "flame" intended. Just trying to be helpful!

If interested...

FASS Serial # 4831 & up have new Non Servicable "brushless" motors.

Serial # 3862 & up have High Pressure Relief Valve... to protect against clogged filters, etc.

Serial # 2546 & up have 5/8" "Buna" ball in return lines, instead of 3/4"... which sometimes leaked... causing low pressure readings, I think?

Update kits are in the works... don't know the timetable.

RJ

PS: Anyone know for sure the micron rating on the Baldwin BT-372 MPG?? I read in my Baldwin Dealers manual that it's 5 micron. Whatever it is... does not cause me any extra loss of FP, vs. the 10 micron that came with my 95 gph FASS.

The new motors do have brushes, but better in design than the past motors. The motor is sealed TONS better and moisture cant get in to aid in electrolysis that was causing the older motor brushes to stick. Bad grounding was also an issue... but that was resolved with the updated harness with the relay and direct connection to the BATT for pos and Neg.

We went from the 3/4" ball to the 5/8" ball due to priming issues after a filter change. Would not catch prime due to the 3/4" ball would stick up in the tight corners in the housing.

We are looking into an update program at the moment for anyone that wants to get the newer T-Block and Motor. More info to come..... as soon as we get some other irons our of the fire... ... :D

Dan

Dan, I have the older FASS and I have a heck of a time priming it when I change my filters. Is the 5/8 ball a updatable part? If you say that it is I will call my dealer. Thanks

Kind of interesting to me. My FASS Serial # is 4831. I recently have seen a change in fuel pressure gauge. Idles at 17psi instead of 18psi and fluctuates a lot more now between 13-17psi driving. I just received my Fleetguard HF6604 from www.fleetguardfilters.com that was back ordered.

Will change the water seperater and fuel filter this weekend and see what happens.

And there is very little in the way of replacements for the screen filter... only Fleetguard (FS1023), Baldwin (BF7760), and DPP have replacements... there is a Napa (3691) that will fit, but has no drain... I also found another napa that will fit (don't remember the number)... but it filters to 15 microns but does have a petcock drain... really a "combined" unit.

Napa 3522. Napa Gold with petcock drain. Same size as the stock FASS screen filter.

i don't know if this will help anyone here, but i did a little digging, and i found a 1 micron [not sure at what %] and a 3 micron absolute that looks like it might cross over onto a fass filter head.

the threads on the filters are 1 1/2"-16 like the fass filters, but they are 5" diam filters so they might not fit. [link is a pfd file]

norman filter company

price i don't know though...

I looked at the cat filters as well... being 5 inches in diameter, I doubt they would clear the mounting bracket or the other filter...

It is the same physical size, but it is a 10 micron filter... not a screen... if you go this route, might as well run the 2 micron Racor filter...

But, as noted with the OEM pumps... they are made for pushing. not pulling... so this might shorten the life of the FASS motor??? Probably no different than running the FASS at 24psi like I have been forced to do until I get yet another %$&^%$! spring...
