Could an aftermarket tuning cause this failure. Looks like it is a MAF voltage issue. Either the sensor, wires in or ECM. Can tuners fry these components

I do not think a Smarty will damage any component on your engine! When I decided to install a Smarty (S67) in 2009 I did extensive researcher on tuners. MAD'S stated that they did extensive testing on the Smarty Software before releasing this to users. So, I purchase the Smarty from MAD's electronics and I have had this on my truck since 2009 without any issues. I did a review of the Smarty for another user back in 2012 and this is from that review to the user which said.

"Per the MADS Site and I quote.
Tested on stock trucks on our in house Dyno Dinamics Twin
Retarder Dyno
.
Stock means just that. Stock! Even the air filters were stock...
We checked the "baseline" ( the stock truck hp at the rear
wheels ) twice in a day in order to be sure about our findings.
The above declared hp numbers are all rounded down to the
closest number. For example the 90 hp file actually did 96 hp.
That's a 90 hp software for me, not a 100. The 170hp was 176.

End quote.

So, if the Smarty could damage anything I believe that MAD'S would have fixed this problem before releasing this to the general public.
I also have noted in the past that I am My Own Warranty Station. Once you install a tuner on the engine you have voided your engine warranty.

Smarty is a pretty solid unit. The only thing it can screw up is a stock auto trans.

p-bar; I do not want to be argumentative with you but that statement is slightly incorrect. You are starting to sound like "Harvey Barlow".

The Smarty may have damaged the older style auto transmissions but the 68RFE auto will hold up using a Smarty. If you read MAD'S warning about "CaTCHER LEVELS" and there settings, you will see that as long as you are at or under CaTCHER level 3 the transmission will survive.
When I installed my Smarty S67 at CaTCHER level 3 which adds 60HP/120 lb.-ft. TQ back in 2009 the mileage was 21,000+. I now have 127,000+ miles on the engine and transmission with no issues what so ever. I also tow my Cedar Creek 34RL at CaTCHER Level 3.

I related to the 48re. Don't know much about the 68rfe just assumed it was another Chrysler bandaid till they brought the aisin on board. Harvey brings back some memories.

I have a 2017 3500 with Aisin

The code should be a low voltage reading involving MAF. Not sure how that is related to Egr system.

Are the symptoms of a failing MAF and EGR similar. I lost power and no boost greater than 10. Still able to pull 5th wheel down the flat road

Back to shop again. New code stating air leak between MAF and throttle body. First dealer pressure tested and replaced inter cooler pipes. Seems it only throws code when towing
