Thermostat: 180* vs 190*; does it really matter?

Hard start issues

I'm looking into intalling a Pacbrake PRXB on my 05. I have a couple questions.

1) I have a II Phat Shaft 62, will the PRXB fit on this?

2)I have the banks big horn intake horn so I dont think I'll be able to mount the compressor in the recommended location. What are other mounting options?

3) What am I looking at for installation time?

Any other helpful information is greatly appreciated.

I don't know too much about controlling the 48RE transmission for a PacBrake setup. That is why I haven't responded. But, since no one has responded yet, I will mention a couple of things.

I think 2005 was the first year for a Dodge Cummins to be OEM "exhaust brake ready" to control the 48RE. Does the PacBrake PRXB you are installing have its own controls that are capable of locking the torque converter during exhaust brake use? - should be 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear). You may have already researched this and know the information. Just mentioning it in case you haven't.

I think you are on your own for mounting the air compressor. There should be plenty of room in the engine compartment to fabricate a mount. As far as the turbo exhaust fitting - I don't know.

06 was the first year, as far as controlling the tranmission, I'm going to have my tuner, 5-9 diesel, make adjustments to my tunes for it.

First thing we need to know, does this turbo use the stock iron elbow on the back of it to connect to the stock downpipe?

If not, you will need an inline exhaust brake system.

If you do have the stock elbow, this becomes much easier and you can buy the direct mount kit for vehicles with "onboard air" already installed (meaning no air compressor provided in the kit) and you can do your own air compressor installation (Pac Brake has frame brackets, compressors, etc)

Please let us know which you have.

I had a leftover GDP bracket for the single filter that I used to mount the compressor in an upside down configuration. If you haven’t purchased the kit yet, I would recommend a more hefty air compressor (ARB) - depending upon your goals and pocketbook.

I mounted a bigger compressor between the frame and under the right front door floorboard.
My truck has the G-56 standard trans. I mounted a PRXB on my neighbors 2006 and the Pacbrake interfaced with the lock up convertor.

06 is EB ready whereas 05 is the only year that wasn't.
Even my 04.5 controls the EB and lock-up just fine, including forced downshift if more retarding power is needed on Cruise.

Pac Brake's application guide https://pacbrake.com/mm5/pdfs/PRXB-Exhaust-Brake_Guide.pdf indicates that for automatic models with a standard exhaust and turbo elbow (thus a 4 inch direct mount system) and owner provided onboard air, there is a different kit for each of the following.......

2003-2004
Cummins 5.9L ISB 24 Valve Engine - 47 / 48RE Auto Trans (Built up to Jan 4, ‘04)
https://pacbrake.com/C44032

2004½ Cummins 5.9L ISB 24 Valve Engine - 48RE Auto Trans (Built Jan 5, ‘04-Jul 25, ‘04)
https://pacbrake.com/C44033

2005 Cummins 5.9L ISB 24 Valve Engine - 48RE Auto Trans (Built up to Jun 27, ‘05)
https://pacbrake.com/C44033

Note that the last two are the same kit..... in both kits, C44032 and C44033 a transmission controller is included with a special toggle switch with an illuminated handle that displays red/green/yellow to indicate the status of the transmission and brake.

The 2006-2007 kit: 2006-2007 Cummins 5.9L ISB 24 Valve Engine - 48RE Auto Trans (Built after Jun 27, ‘05)
https://pacbrake.com/C44037
Does not include a transmission controller nor is one needed, as the factory transmission computer controls the transmission lockup functions when the Cummins computer activates the EB. This is the same kit as 2004½-2007 straight shifts with a simple on-off toggle switch to operate the EB. 2003-2004 straight shifts have the same kit but a different brake valve due to differences in the down pipe.

The OP can install a compressor using a mounting bracket and compressor from Pac Brake or ARB or one or two other sources, so long as the air is controlled by ignition power so the air is available when the engine is running. This compressor installation is not difficult, just requires a little creativity.

I installed the engine mounted compressor, for ease of installation, but may someday install a larger frame mounted compressor, which will require a fair amount of re-plumbing and re-wiring. I just wanted it done so I took the easiest route.

Pac Brake air compressors, brackets and components can be found in the https://pacbrake.com/mm5/pdfs/Air-Suspension-Controls_Guide.pdf I still spent a fair amount of time on Amazon looking for fittings and tubing as I mounted air outlets on the back end of each running board and that the air tubing supplied in the kits was unusable and trashed it in favor of SAE J844 marked air brake tubing.

The above sentence should read (change in italic)... This is the same kit as 2004½-2007 straight shifts with a simple on-off toggle switch to operate the EB. 2003-2004 straight shifts have a virtually identical kit https://pacbrake.com/C44031 but with a slightly different brake valve due to differences in the down pipe.

Please reference the application guides and the web site for your exact vehicle configuration if you are considering an exhaust brake.

I installed a PRXB in an automatic 2007 2500 and I installed a high beam floor switch where the customer wanted it. You would step on the button to engage the brake and step on it again to turn it off. Worked like a charm. You didn't have to take you didn't have to take your hands off of the wheel. On my stick shift truck, I have the two speed rear axel pull/push switch mounted on the stick.

When I am towing the trailer, the switch is on, if I am not towing and just driving around town, its off (and sometimes I turn the compressor off also) just really don't need it. The truck is not driven often around locally, sometimes just to keep it running, I drive it every week to two weeks, otherwise it sits waiting for the next trip with the trailer. No sense trying to wear it out. In March I spent almost a $1000 for the Power Stop brake kit (good kit) and this month I spent $1300 on a new roof A/C unit for the travel trailer. (just got it operating tonight, cools really good, quiet, I'm impressed) Always something.
