I remember someone had given info about this, but I can seem to find that thread.

I want to say this was the buffer to get:

I've got a good amount of scratches, scuff, dings, etc in the truck (hey it's a truck, not a show car right?) and I was looking to spend the money on some good detailing supplies instead of paying someone to clean up the truck.

Tips, tricks, etc would be appreciated... or if you can point me to a link that has good info that would help too.

Super Cyclo

I just bought a Super Cyclo random orbital buffer. I did a lot of research and found this to be the best. I have a black truck which is a pain to keep looking good. I bought the value package which includes discs ect...

ps. forgot to say that I had a good experience with the vendor. Quick and reliable service. I can't wait to use this thing!!! It's been used in the airline industry as a commercial buffer for 50 some odd years. In my opinion it blows away the Porter Cable buffer you linked to above.

I'll start by saying that I am VERY inexperienced with auto detailing. That said, I had very good luck with the Porter Cable RO buffer and bought a kit from:

http://autopia-carcare.com/son-sfxpol-kit.html

I also bought some of the Sonus polishes. Yes, I realize you can probably get something less expensive and yes, I realize that other people can get the same results with some toothpaste and linseed oil, but I am not one of those people:) I like kits and I like good instructions. This had both of those things.

I spent most of a a Friday night and Saturday morning compounding certain areas of the truck, polishing and glazing the whole thing, and then applying some Collinite 915 Marque d'Elegance Carnuba wax (www.dccarcare.com). I am generally a Zaino guy (www.zainobros.com) but I didn't have time. The Collinite that Don sold me lasted all winter... good stuff.

So, I like Porter Cable, Sonus, Wurth, Collinite, 303, and Zaino stuff on my truck:)

I have a picture of the results in my reader's rigs but it isn't very revealing. In that light and at that angle, just about any truck would look good! :)

Good luck.

Regards,

John

I've been using the Porter Cable for a few years and am very pleased with it. A random orbit won't get severe scratches out of your paint but it is the best option for an inexperienced user because it's not aggressive enough for you to damage your paint. The cyclone or a circular like a dewalt can cause damage if yoiu don't know how to use them.

Opinion

If you haven't used it yet, how can you have the opinion that it's better than PC?

JT, if your question is for me I will answer. The cyclo has two heads, two heads make the unit easier to balance. The US military uses this polisher to polish Airforce One. I read the stats on both units and formed my opinion. That's what you do before you purchase something..... agreed? If I had the opinion that the PC was the better I would of bought it.

I think any of those polishers would work great.

I personally use Mothers ulitimate waxing system on my truck. It works great!!!

If I were you, I would clay, then go through the 3 steps. You will be amazed how well this works. Go to www.mothers.com to read more on this stuff.

I think Mothers is the best car cleaner, sealer, and polisher on the market and don't forget the micro fiber cloths. They are great also.

Have fun,

Joe

PS I pick up my Mothers at my local Pep Boys...
