My Cargo door will not open from the inside door latch but it will open with the edge door latch. I was looking in my manual and it shows a release cable that goes from the inside latch to the edge door latch. Do these cables have a tendency to break or do they become unhooked? I like to get an idea what I'm dealing with before I tear into it. Also much does the release cable cost?

Thanks for the reply, I'm just going have to tear into it and go to the dealer and order the cable. Are the push in generic where you can get them from a parts store like NAPA or are they special Mopar parts?

SHobb

If you can get the trim panel off the edge latch has two rods one go up and the other goes down. Then you can unscrew the edge latch and disconnect the rods and be able to pull on them to open the door if the edge latch is your problem.

I think mine is in the cable, I tried to open the door one day and it didn't budge. Pulled on the handle it felt normal before I felt it get loose and the door didn't open. Pull on the handle all day and get no where. I even tried the inside handle and got the same response.

Mine was the latch where the cable hooked to. (pot metal broke) I replaced the latch and now I always push in on the door when I open it from the outside and it seems to take some of the stress off parts when opening.

SHobbs I just dealt with this problem on mine. Its a PIA but you have remove the door panel. It can be done with the door closed. I then reached in and grabbed the connecting rod for the lower latch and pushed it upwards and the door opened. The problem I found was where the upper latch rod and the lower latch rod connect to the edge door handle. The screw which holds it onto the handle had come loose. tighented everything back up and all is good.

I just dealt with this as well. Neither handle would open the door normally, until I pushed in the door real hard. So you may wish to try that to get the door open.

As stated, a real PITA to get all the panels and parts off. Once they were all off and I could see what was going on, it looked like the lower rod had slipped down in its bracket. Just pulled it up a couple of threads and everything was hunky-dory. :D

Knowing what I do now, if it happens again I'll just remove the edge door handle, grab the lower rod with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and pull up a thread or two. Might save an hour's worth of "discovery learning" with taking the door apart. You might want to try this as well, to see if you can fix it more easily.

I haven't had time to look into it yet, I had to work on my wife 68 mustang. But I was looking at it and noticed that when you pull on the inside latch the edge latch would come out like the other door but it lacks about a 1/4" of making it all the way. Which tell me the cable is not completely broken yet. I'll be taking vacation here soon and will tear into it then and let you know what I find.
