I do, it seems to be working quite well. I am not running any more DP:Boost than i was before and cruise boost isn't up all that much, and when towing it works great.

I don't thin I would run any more of a cam with the stock turbo than the Stage 1 thou, as they really start moving a lot more air.

AH64ID, I just sent you a PM but found this thread so disregard. Glad I found this, awesome info here. I was thinking about the stage 2 colt, sounds like there may be concerns with stock turbo and maybe reduced EB performance?

I would think the Stage II would be on the excessive size for the stock turbo, but if a bigger turbo is in the cards then it will spool it a little faster than the Stage 1.

As far as the EB goes I currently have lower back pressure per rpm than before, but max is the same and I can't tell a difference in retarding power so I am not sure?

I know this is a old thread but I am looking for a possible Cam upgrade. We tow heavy as full time rver's all the time. I do not want a regrind.
Colt stage one is not offered any more. Stage 2 is a regrind. So what are people using now for towing.
Thanks

When my motor was rebuilt I switched to the Hamilton Cams 178/208. It is a very nice cam and does better across the board than the Colt Stage I, which was also a good cam.

You will need to either change exhaust brakes to a pressure regulating one or get stronger valve springs. I peak with the Hamilton at about 75# of back pressure. That makes my Jacobs stronger than the PXRB or BD but it could do damage with the stock valve springs.

The tappets should be changed with a new cam but don't always have to.

The 24v tappets are lighter and a used by most when replacing CR tappets.

The cam does remove a portion of the incylinder EGR, and the Smarty Jr removes another. The turbo and pistons also play a role. My UOA didn't ever show a reduction in soot until I ditched the 04.5-07 piston.
