Piston lift vs electric

It seems that nobody offers electric pumps (they start with the 94 model year) to replace the diaphram lift pump. Is the only option to go with the piston lift pump?

When you serf for parts. Keep in mind that manymany of the the vendors simply do not want... ... . 'er I mean, do not indicate parts that fit our trucks. They really don't know much about the truck that started it all.



I'll ask you this in return cause I like to answere questions with a question. Why COULDN'T you install an electric onto your truck? And no the piston lift is not the only option you have.



Folks gotta start thinking outside the box here.



Keep in mind that you will not need/require as much pressure into the rotary injection pump. You will have to taylor to your particular need(s). 10 psi would be perfect fro WOT. You may see a tad more at partial throttle but I wouldn't exceed 14/16 psi. The P-Pump will see 24/26psi at part throttle and hopefully that at WOT



Contact the vendor and explain this. They will help you out in terms of the supply pressure. Keep in mind that the VE does not have a pressure relief vale. It has a fixed orfice.

Your question was exactly the answer I was pondering... . just thought maybe I was missing something while thinking outside the box.



If I went the electric route... I would need to make a cover plate where the lift pump currently resides as I assume there are no aftermarket options.

I'm told the cover plate is the same one from a small block chevy or the like. Don't waste your time. Go the piston lift pump route. Be a perfect addition to your crew.

Gilbert, when you install the piston pump I recall that some grinding to remove material so the supply pipe would properly fit would be necessary. could a new line be bent to avoid grinding or am I making too much of nothing? or perhaps a flexable line?

A sharp exacto knife/razor blade knife can be used to cut some of the hard plastic insulation cover. If you look down there and feel the material, its nothing to grind or cut some away. I wouldn't try to reinvent the wheel with a different fuel line.
