We've had a PowerEdge box installed for over a week now on my dad's 2001 HO Cummins. The truck came with pretty good power stock compared to that of my 95. The PowerEdge is a quality product that's easy to install (other than the fact that the directions it came with called for wire colors we didn't have, but a call to HVAC and we figured it all out). I was not used to the truck not smoking at all (compared to my 95 w/TST, aprox. 300hp/700tq) but I guess that's because the power and fuel didn't really kick in til over 2200 rpm. I could tell the truck did have more power but not quite as much power as I thought it would make. We got our two truck side by side to see which one had more power and my 95 outran it. This morning we installed some 275hp RV injectors and all I can say is wow. Now the 2001 goes like it should and it still doesn't blow much smoke but the power puts you back in the seat now. The stock clutch did slip on me a little as I went racing down the road to try it out. I found a powerjoke to play with tonight, I let him get next to me and then I gave it to him... lol... just a little spec in the rearview mirror. Next time me and my dad decide to run the trucks side by side it should be a pretty good race. Now we just need to get the new one to run cooler for when we tow, and those parts are on the way.

Hey BriarHopper,
I noticed the same thing on a 300mi trip this weekend. I was using the cruise. I had thought how I was glad the cruise control was working because I had heard some say that their cruise did not work after the PE install. After about 10mi on cruise, the engine just shut off for a split second. Oh SH**. I turned the cruise off and everything was ok for a few more miles and it did it again. I made sure the connections were tight. Everything looked ok. I drove about 200 more miles with some stops, about 2mi of bumpy gravel road. It didn't do it again. I wonder if the cruise is doing something to the PE to cause it to shutoff or reset? Anyone else have this momentary shutoff problem and was it during or just after cruise?

I may be totally off base, but I wonder if the PE is just causing an existing problem to show up - my 99 did the exact same thing when it was stock. I didn't see any correlation with the cruise. Since adding the 275's, it has only happened twice (much more often before injectors).

I just looked at the board and spotted the post Briar Hopper left and Turbo-6 too. As I was reaching for the phone it rang! It was Taylor at Edge Porducts and he is very interested in hearing more detail regarding the stumble you have mentioned. If possible, give Brett or Taylor a call at their office 801 476-3343. Or you can email to Brett.

brett@edgeproductsinc.com

They appreciate the feedback and are genuinely concerned with your satisfaction #ad

I looked, but I don't have either of your phone numbers or I would call you.

Whoa! Easy there! Maybe I should have chosen my wording more carefully. I couldn't be more satisfied with the PE box and I really don't think the PE itself is the problem. I have been running it about a week, hasn't been off since I installed it, and have not had any problems until I tried to "cruise". I guess I was looking for something like... "I knocked my xyz wire loose during the install and it did the same thing, fixed that and all is well in the world" kind of advise. My first suspect is a loose connection. I also wonder about the cruise software. TXRam said his 99 has done this stock, so I don't know. Just looking for ideas. I've put about 200mi on the truck since it hiccuped with no other problems. Thanks HVAC for the concern and I'll give Taylor a call to see if he has any ideas I can check out.

HVAC, have you got my check and sent my PowerEdge yet. I have the loaner from KatDiesel in my truck now, thanks KatDiesel. Well I towed from Iowa down to Kansas and back with my trailer and Jeep about 6000 lbs. I do not have the brass elbow on my truck so results may be slightly different. I towed about 300 miles with the box on Levels 1 and Level 3 a couple of times to check passing power on the hills (no problem). Doing the trip to Kansas and back I hit 1250 degrees pre-turbo a couple of times while stepping hard about 3/4 to full throttle going up hill in 6th gear, it gained about 15-20 MPH on one steep hill I incountered. On the flat accelerating in Level 3, 6th gear it gained speed from about 40 to 45 MPH all the way to 70 MPH in about 9 seconds, Egt's about 1150 degrees. So overall I think my truck has all the power I need at least for now. I do need to get a 4" exhaust badly as there are several times I had to back-off the throttle to avoid going over 1250 degrees. I encounter no problems at all. All test are done with-out the brass elbow althou I got it today and will install it this weedend and do some more testing, max boost was about 25 PSI.

Talked to Taylor at Edge Products. Super nice guy. At his suggestion, he is sending me another PE and a postage paid box to send my original back so they can test it. Couldn't ask for better customer service from him and from HVAC. It's good to know that if I ever do have a problem, these guys will try this hard to resolve it.

Hey Turbo-6,

Where are you at in AR? I grew up in Newport and went to the U of A, before being transplanted to TX.

Shoot me an e-mail. I've got to make a trip up to see my uncle (dying of cancer) next month. If you anywhere along the way, maybe we could meet up.

HVAC,
I'm going to start taking your word as gospel!! The POWER EDGE arrived today (Wednesday) just like you said. #ad
#ad
Just ordered it Sunday and here it is. Now that's some service. I guess I'll have to take tomorrow off and get it installed! Won't that be terrible? #ad
I'll keep you informed. Bear834 in Spokane wants to check it out when it is installed, bet he will want one too. I don't know about Papa Joe, he is up in Rathdrum about 10 mile away, haven't met him yet, but will soon. Thanks for the terrific service and technical help. BIG BOB #ad

Just taking a quick look at the box, thought there would be some kind of indication of which power level you are at. I didn't see any, but we'll check it out more thoroughly.

My Hot Poweredge arrived today! I took time to read the paperwork and instructions carefully, but by the time I had gathered my tools together,it started to get dark outside. Bummer, but it gave me the chance to plan out my first Bombing adventure. Maybe it'll go even smoother.

Have decided to wait until Friday to do the install, I'll have more daylight then to enjoy the smoke. But in the mean time I'll order the Dual Pillar pod mount and guages from Geno's. That way I'll be heading in the right direction to watch my boost and EGT's.

Anyone have any tips on the removal of the MAP sensor plug without damaging it? It was kinda hard to see it in the dark. Almost didn't find it,kinda in a tight place.

What is the plug for in the bottom of the Boost Elbow?

Can't wait till I can initiate the #3 Warp Drive #ad

HVAC, I'm not funnin'. HEY WOWZY, easy about the mercedes jokes! Everybody should have one in the garage next to their cummins dodge!

A pretty pair!

This shot doesn't show the hole I had to cut in the back of my garage so the door wouldn't close on the bed! (My then current girlfriend took it as proof I was crazy and dumped me! She was pissed I liked my truck more than her - no gd smiley faces!)

If you think about it, it's a big brother/little brother picture, or rather a little brother big brother picture (daimler chrysler)

OK, How about if he's in a Bentley or Rolls?

That would sure take the new car smell out!

I definatly wouldn't do that to a fellow Cummins owner, but that doesn't mean that I like Mercedes because any company that might be a threat to booting our beloved Cummins out and having us wait on the curb for another truck manufacturer to pick us up, doesn't get my support.

Mike B. the program can be modified prior to shipping to you for $0. Beyond that you can send the module back to Edge for a change if you feel the need. This should cost you something since it requires people and equipment take time to effect the change. I do not know if and or what the charge is.

WOWZY, stop! Your causing brain damage on my end from #ad

If you prefer smoke I suggest you make a deal for Mike B. 's injectors.

Well I couldn't wait until tomorrow to install my Power Edge. Hee Haw! The only thing that wasn't in the kit was a 5 amp fuse that goes in the fuse holder. Had to chase that down. Truck runs great! The only thing is I don't know which power mode I am in. I push the buttom and the power comes on, I push it again and it goes off, I push it again and it comes on, so on and so forth. Is this the way it's suppose to work? Don't know if I like that. I can't seem to feel the difference in power to know which power mode I am in. #ad
#ad
Tomorrow I will run some 1500 rpms to 3000 rpms in 4th gear. I know that prior to the installation I was running between 12. 5 and 13. 5 sec. I love the power just wished I knew which power mode I was in. I am very leary to run it at all being I don't have a gauge for EGT's. #ad
#ad

All right I BLEW IT!! Chris (N5CWM) set me straight. Need to read all instruction. I will now go crawl into my corner! #ad

I almost forgot, the "Check Engine" light stay on all the time now that I installed the Power Edge when the ignition is on. Any suggestions? #ad
#ad
Sure would like to see that light go out! Also didn't get the 4 wire ties in the kit.

No wire ties? Hmm... go to the hardware store
and get some. Not very important, just nice
attention to detail from Brett and Taylor. #ad

Did you get instructions? I hope you read
them carefully. Find them and read step
number 22. That will enlighten you as to
how to switch power levels.

Be forewarned, though: I suggest you do not
use your PE any more until you have installed
a pyrometer (EGT) gauge. It is VERY easy to
exceed safe EGTs with the PE in settings 2
and 3! #ad

From reading posts, not from personal
experience, I think the check engine light
will go out after about 12 on/off cycles of
your ignition key. Anyone know?

Get those gauges and have fun! #ad
