WOWZY. . I don't know for sure, but I don't think your stumble was related to your theory. Could moisture have played a part? Was it raining or had just rained... . washed truck?. .

WOWZY. . I could be wrong, but I don't think your 'stumble' was according to your theory. Could moisture have played a part? Was it raining. . roads wet... just washed truck??

I drove it around last night for about two hours and couldn't make it stumble and it was raining like cats and dogs almost all of the time I was driving,so I don't think moisture has anything to do with it. At the time it stumbled yesterday,it hadn't rained and I had already washed my truck 2 days before the install.

Brett E-mailed me this morning and he said that he's sending me a new Custom PE out today. He said that he's isolated the problem and will be sending me a new one that has a different board in it. Now that's what I call "Customer Service" since I hadn't contacted him yet. What's even better is that they will send you a new PE and a new shipping label so that you won't be inconvenienced any. You can't get customer service like this anywhere! #ad

Thanks HVAC for forwarding him my E-mail that I sent you. You guys are great! #ad

HVAC,

Great start on your online line accessory catalog. I can't wait to see all the BOMBing paraphernalia (like that word?) that will be offered on Performance Diesel!!

With the SPA EHT and Boost gauge would I need anything else beside the thermocoupler and pillar mount to complete the installation?

I just received my replacement Power Edge yesterday, will try to get it installed today and send the old one in ASAP. I hated having to make my original post about the engine stumbling, I was afraid it might cost a few customers... Well, it's only done it 5 times in one week,(1300 miles) and I've had it on constantly. I left it in "2" for the run to Michigan for the TDR in Hell Event, I had to, just to keep up with Stack'd 'N' Jack'd on the highway while running convoy ! No problems...
Love the box, love the customer service, I'm here to tell you, you gotta have it... .
All new products might have a few problems here and there, that's to be expected. The main thing is, Taylor and Brett obviously know what they're doing, they have everything from the technical to the customer service nailed down right, so line up and getcha one. I bought mine from HVAC, and he was absolutely great to deal with, and fun to talk to...

Just installed my PE last weekend. Preliminary tests show 0-60 improvement at level 2 from 17. 7 sec. to 12. 5 sec. The transmission, gauges, exhaust, and air filter are next! Has anyone come up with a great location/method to attach the box to the dash . . . I'm not a big fan of the stick on velcro method. Finally, where can I find out exactly how the PE works . . . i. e. how it decides how much diesel to inject into the engine at any given time at each of the 3 levels?

Briar Hopper, I bet Stackd N Jackd was surprised he couldn't walk away from you #ad

Tiburon, glad your a happy camper #ad

I believe I have a rough idea how the PE works. It is like the oem ecm on the truck.
The ECM monitors boost levels via the MAP sensor. Depending on the TPS, the ECM controls fueling using the boost as a guide.
This is to control smoke. The ECM controls the plus width of the solenoid sending fuel to the injector. I believe the pressure can be modulated too, not sure how that works. The PE and other boxes modify the signal to the solenoid to increase fueling. This can be changed in the case of the PE at the push of a button. Program 1, 2, and 3. You move the fueling table up or down compared to the overall mapping within the ECM. Cool eh! #ad

Tiburon, I mounted mine just to the left of the ashtray. I used the velcro to fasten it there and I'm glad that I did with Brett sending me a new one,it will be easy to change out. It looks very good and outa the way of your knees.

Since Kat has turned me into a Photo-Posting Monster #ad

,I'll try to post a pic of where it's mounted. On second thought I'll just post the web address (since this topic is of phenominal preportions already) when I take the pic.

Tiburon,
I made a small (hat shape) bracket out of aluminum. It attaches to the two screws at the bottom left of the knee bolster. No welding, just measure, mark, and bend to fit the PE. I painted it black to match the PE, and you really can't tell it's there. Can't say that this is a great position for "on the fly" adjustment (which I'm told is a literal description of a ride in HVAC's truck), but I tend to leave mine on level two - so it's worked out for me.

Good to get feedback on mounting techniques as well as mounting locations.

Couple things I want to run by you are:

1. ) Would you like to have a way tell which program your on at a glance?

2. ) Would you like to have a remote led which could be mounted on the pillar for instnace, or maybe on the rearview? This would be easier to watch while driving.

3. ) Would you feel better if you had the power supply to the PE routed through a pressure interlock which would not let the box function if the fuel pressure were to low? Let's say the lift pump takes a [Censored] and you are unaware the pressure is extremely low, or the filter is plugged up with bad fuel you got at the unbranded station. This might protect you from damage.

Papa Joe,
Great meeting you and you paying for lunch!! Now that's the way to do it, meet a fellow TDR member and have him buy lunch. Just kidding Papa Joe, my treat next time. Don't remember if I thanked you, if not thanks a bunch. #ad

Power Edge Update,

Papa Joe and I got together for lunch yesterday to talk about (you guess it) the PE and Cummins diesels. After lunch he twisted my arm for a ride. (He really didn't have to twist very hard) We started out in power range #1, he commented on the increase in power right away. Well when we got to #3 we both had big grins on our faces and very little smoke. #ad
He was very impressed with the way it pull in 3rd,4th and 5th gear. It is so much fun listening to people that haven't experienced the "POWER EDGE". #ad

HVAC

Looks like Papa Joe will be giving you a call, I think he likes it!!
I also agree with your previous post for PE improvements. They all sound great. Will be interesting to see if PE stays on the cutting edge of technology and incorporates these features into the PE. If and when they do, I hope they don't forget about us who have already purchased a PE, I would like to have these features also. #ad

HVAC,I would like to see a Numeric LED on the box,but 3 lights would be ok.

I seriously plan on taking my truck to the local Cummins dealer in Greensboro and putting it on their chassis dyno this weekend. The local Dodge dealership here sends customer trucks there if there is an issue where the customer thinks that he has lost power. Who better to diagnose a problem than a Cummins dealership.

I'll get four different dyno runs done in the, stock,#1,#2 and #3 levels. Any idea what this will cost me? Doesn't really matter since knowledge is priceless.

HVAC,
Yes to all 3 questions, but will settle for 3 LED's on box, or a numeral like on Valentine One radar detector. A remote indicator may cost too much...
A "fail-safe" cut-out based on fuel pressure is a big "YES "... .
BTW, got the new Edge hooked up, and the old one dropped off at UPS this afternoon. No problems with the new one.

HVAC
I also favor all 3,I would like a pillar mounted led, still waiting for guages before I install my edge. Thanks for your input,on this product.

HVAC,
All three are great ideas (so long as the price stays reasonable). Like most, I'd like to see at a glance what level I'm running (via 3 leds or display). I hadn't even considered the fuel pressure interlock but that's one you'd never forget if you fragged your pump. Sounds like good insurance to me.

Thanks for wading in with your opinions here, I know the fellas at Edge check in from time to time to see what we are talking about.

I wanted to mention the price has been set for reprogramming your Power Edge module if you should choose to do so. This means if you already have a PE and you want to have it changed, you can send it back for an adjustment to the origional programs for $49 bucks, including the shipping. If you have changes made when you place your initial order there is no charge. Some of the changes I know of are to make the #3 a LARGE jump in performance while leaving 1 & 2 standard. Another box went out with a standard #1 and #2 was changed to the level of the standard #3, and #3 was several levels stronger then the standard #3. Customize your performance #ad

Based on what I have seen on my truck and what I have observed on others, I recommend you folks test your fuel system pressure under WOT. I am finishing the installation of my Holley pump this AM. We'll see if an improvment is realized.

<font color=blue>HVAC -

Well get off the computer and go finish! #ad
Seriously let us know how that works out... ... and wheres that fuel line kit you promised us??? #ad
huh? huh?

Your questions :
  1. Yes this would be nice but would like to suggest 6 LED's so that at the press of a button you could make them go back and forth for the "Knight Rider" looks #ad

  2. No, probably increase cost too much for what it provides.
  3. This could be handy, as long as we don't increase cost too much when adding this feature.
  4. I would like to suggest some mounting holes drilled into the sides of the PE (like on CB's) for more mounting optins. [/list=a]

I am waiting on the a custom version Same Level I, and III and the monster Level III. After I get some injectors I might have them do some more "custom" programing, we'll have to see how it works out.

HVAC and others,
I am getting close to my cross country run from Vermont to Glacier National Park. Having been unable to spend any time on the site, I was concerned about missing the latest info the the Edge box.

What is this swap thing about and do I need to be concerned about it for my 3. 5day drive to Montana?

Everyone still seems pumped on this box, so that is good news.

Nice to be back home (for a day or two), nothing like driving home from the airport listening to the diesel purr at 2am to mellow the old airline frazzled nerves!!

<font color=blue>Well with each passing day I become more and more impressed with the level of customer service from Brett and Taylor at Edge Products.

I had gotten a "standard" PowerEdge basically as soon as they were available to the public, not only did they answer numerous emails from me before purchasing and AFTER the transaction was done. Brett threw in some "extra" pump connections and a couple of harness's so that others could test my box on their trucks. And I had paid for 2nd day air, when 20 mins after I ordered it Brett said it would be shipped NEXT DAY AIR, so that I would have it for the weekend!

This week I had requested a "custom" version for myself either on a Monday or a Tuesday (can't remember) but I told them I was leaving out of town soon and didn't want it sitting on my porch for 10 days (while on vacation)because the UPS man decided to leave it there. So it was shipped NEXT DAY AIR, I recieved it as I walked out the door on my way to work today. And it has a prepaid shipping label to return my "standard" PowerEdge!!

Just because at Edge they can't answer every single email (although my @home has had email troubles so they may have answered me but I didn't recieve it) Brett and Taylor are "listening" and working on satisfying us the consumers!!!

Now this is what I call EXCELLANT customer service.

I am now waiting on them to release their "timing" product when they get it properly tested. ..... Is it done yet? huh? #ad

Now if only I could get my gauges and the PE in the truck before I leave... argh. . the agony... ... (my pyro thermo couple just came today too. ) Finally got all my "pieces" but no time to install... ... .

Standard Level I and II and a "Pucker face" Level III !!!
