power steering pump

found power steering fluid on the ground today. wiped everything clean but did not find any spots leaking
when i check the fluid level there was a lot of pressure when i open up the cap. is this normal and is there a
pressure relief valve on it some where like the cap?

Quite a few people have this problem...the pressure relief vent on the cap is too small and likely to plug...a new cap will not help either, as it is the oem design which has the same problem. Like the last poster said, do a quick search for a fixit thread with pics, then drill a small, offset hole in the cap...it has two layers seperated by the rubber gasket IIRC.

Hmm.. never heard of that issue, but...

Had a friend blow the cooler hose off his PS pump in the boonies a while back. There was an awful sound and lots of pressure in the reservoir. Well after several days of trying to find a replacement pump/pulley we had no luck. (old style pumps available, only new sized pully's. There is a .030 difference in the two). We had a new pump/pulley but the old reservoir didn't fit and you can't find a new pump w/ reservoir... so on the old pump went as a last prayer to get him out of the woods. It's still working, but on the short list to be replaced! We never did figure out why the cooler line blew off.

No problem... knock wood, my 2005 has NOT had this problem with either the old PS pump or the newer upgraded pump installed under warranty...nonetheless, have read quite a bit about it happening, but thankfully the fix is VERY simple.

My 05 is the same, I am due for my 2nd flush and have Amsoil ATF in it.

Common issue. Drill a tiny hole in the cap and the problem is solved.
