I finally got some time off and could check this out more closely. The coil for the pull in relay circuit apparently is dead as I was not getting power from relay to fuel solenoid, however the hold circuit is OK. I have a new one ordered from Larry B's ( thanks illflem). I also needed to find why it died as if running out of fuel. About a year ago I replaced the hoses that go from frame to engine that are for the lift pump. At first glance they looked OK, but with the truck running it looked like one of the hoses was trying to collapse. On closer inspection found a soft spot on the hose. Hose is being replaced and will keep an eye on it for a while to make sure that was it. It would at least explain why it did not just die and ran like it was out of fuel. Thanks for the tip Joe G. BTW, I did use marine grade diesel hose for replacement hoses. apparently just got a bad section of hose from the supplier. Also checked the local dealer for a price of a new relay. I was surprised that it was only 2 1/2 times more than Larry B's. I thaught it would be at least 4 times more.
Thanks to all that offered their suggestions.
