It seems that the charge wire to the trailer plug is hot all the time. It does not turn off when the ignition is off. Is this supposed to be this way? Seems like you have to unplug you truck to protect you batteries?
If I remember correctly when the voltage drops below 13. 2 volts power is cut off to the 7 pin connector hot wire. This prevents the fuse from blowing when a large voltage draw (ie: front jacks on a fifth wheel under load) is being used. It also protects the trucks batteries from completly discharging when the trailer is hooked up to truck only and no other power.
The charge wire is always hot. It is pretty small; I think 12ga. I replaced mine with an 8ga wire behind an 80A circuit breaker. I always unplug the trailer when I'm camped. It is hard on the truck batteries if you let the trailer discharge them.
