Sears and the war

Does anyone know the minimum pressure needed to strip paint from my garage floor. A friend has a pressure washer that is rated at 1800 PSI. He said it might do the job. I was thinking much more than that. I think I read somewhere about 3000 PSI to strip paint from concrete.

I know this isn't a truck question but I also know that one can get anything answered on this forum.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your friend is right - 1800 might do it, depends on how well the paint is bonded to the concrete. 3000 is better but be careful around any wood. It will raise the grain real bad as well as cut into the wood.

Alot depends on the paint. If It is a good oil base in my experience concrete is the hardest thing to remove paint from. you may have to apply a little stripper and let it set, and then blast it away easily with your 1800 psi.

While on the subject of pressure washers and paint - any precautions when removing lead paint off wood in this manner?

Not really

As long as the lead is not friable/airborne/dust no real problem, might want to wear a particulate mask. I would however try to catch all the old paint on a gravel or loose dirt area to be scooped up and disposed of later.

The 1800 psi will probally work if you get a spiral nozzle, aka turbo nozzle, it break the water into small pelets and really works wonders. It has a rotating "pin" inside the nozzle. We have one on a 4000psi washer to clean hog barns. Caution they will break the skin (from experience) and they can cut a 2x4 in half. just my . 02, alonzo
