I got a price today.

Evaporator is $280 value line, (whatever that is) is $145 + $20 for the stripping kit.

The heater core is $234.

What freakin planet am I on???

Does this seem like robbery to only me?

I thought there were going to be about $100 each... . and only because theyre dealer parts.

Does anyone know where these can be had for a REASONABLE price?

Eric

BTW it's a 1998 2500 with the 12 valve, if that matters.....

part prices

Back in July, I replaced my wife's truck's evaporator ($71), heater core ($92) and accumulator ($39), along with new garter springs and o rings for $213. 00. I dealt with the local independant radiator shop, and he had all the parts for me the next day. I think there is a year warranty on all parts. Hope this helps.

Just replaced the heater core, evap last week, got them from Napa, used truck cap sealing foam tape for the sealing around the evap. I paid $100 for the heater core, 140 for the evap. Both fit fine and are working. The job on the other hand wasnt pleasant, took me probably 10 hours and my Dr. Pepper kept freezing...
Kragen/advanced auto parts had a heater core for $60-70 but for the terrible job that it is to change i didnt want to risk it for $30. Dealer wanted almost $600 for those two parts alone.

Thanks guys. I'd like to stick with factory parts, but I dont know why being the evap lasted only 8 years. #@$%!

It started leaking 2 summers ago.

I might have to call the parts places. I absolutly DO NOT want an offshore part!!!! Again, I cant explain why being the sub standard life of the Mopar part. Guess I'm stupid. #@$%!

I still cant believe the low pressure side was leaking... ..... #@$%!#@$%!

One of the parts from Napa had "Made in USA" proudly displayed (think it was the evap) but I could not find an origin on the other, I too try to stick with made in usa... but when it comes down to paying 5X as much...

Thanks. I really want to stay away from used parts, being the job is such a PITA and time consuming.

Right now it's way too cold to start (down near 10 last night... ) but next week is supposed to get up in the 40's-50's, so maybe then.

Rock auto... why didnt I think of that. :D

I got a radiator for the wifes jeep grand cherokee for something like $98 delivered IIRC. It was an asian part, but I didnt plan on keeping the jeep anyway. Part did go right in and worked... .

I might price NAPA too. There arent many near me.

Thought I would toss a pic on here, when I changed mine only the heater core was leaking, but convinced myself to do both heater core and evap... here is a pic of the Evap as it was when I pulled it out.

My heater core is fine. I've owned the truck since new, and have always done a yearly flush with fresh antifreeze.

I cant see getting to these parts and not replacing both.

Rock is the place.....

I got a price from Rock. $281 delivered with a dryer.

The evaporator is $133

the heater core is $70

and the dryer is $64

All are A/C Delco parts, so I assume theyre made in the USA.

I just got my evap and heater core from Rock auto... I bought 4 seasons but when the heater core arrived it was in a proliance box turns out 4 seasons quit making heater cores. . Both had made in USA on them and have a year warranty. . I am getting ready to tackle this job on Tuesday. . What is "used truck cap sealing foam tape for the sealing around the evap. " and why would I need it?? Also is there anything else I need to replace while I got it apart?? Someone said something about the AC dryer?? Also if anyone has the instructions on how to do this please send them to me... THANKS Wesley

I priced the M4less.
