Propane and what to look out 4

OK what I need to know is if I’m running around 36 lbs of boost and put propane on the truck how far should boost go up past 36? If the truck dynos at say 750 to 800 lbs TQ right now with 36 lbs of boost and If I put the propane system on should the head gasket last if I don't go over say 45 lbs boost? Just want to know is it worth putting propane on. How much more power am I looking to gain with it too?

What I think I know, don't know nuttin bout propane in diesels, I use it for a heater. I blew my head gasket with only 36 lbs of boost. If you can propane and keep the temps down I think you'd be ok. Temps down to me means 1,250 max. If you're looking at 1,400 very often you won't be looking at it very long. The metals just change at those temps and at different rates and things just fail. I know many that run propane and are just thrilled with it. Different goal than me, I'm living off this truck and the nickles I don't put in it I get to keep. But I'm trying to learn to be more conservative. I blowed mine up. . . don't have it to work with and it's expensive to fix. Reasons for learning not to break things. That's what I say, but the little devil on my left shoulder sometimes wins the arguement and I'm looking at 1,400 all at once. This from an old f@rt, maybe alittle too young at heart.

Cheers,

Say no to propane and yes to water/meth. Much easier on your motor. Propane raises egts. Water/meth lowers it. You can always run just water. Cost of propane is higher than water. Some service stations won't fill a propane tank on a rig. Hope this helps. Have a great day :D

Have mileage gains with propane while towing ever been proven? I would be interested for that purpose, but I would rather use water/meth for the short power needs. Where are all these do-hickey's going to go?:D

Mileage may be up but cost/mile is not necessarily down. I remember reading by the time you figure in the cost of propane you are not really decreasing your cost/mile by much.

water/meth

Does anybody have pic's of a system or a web site to goto for water/meth on our trucks? How do you hook it up and all the pluming and all? Need more info and thanks for all the help!!!!!!

Propane

I hate to admit I have BOTH! Propane and Methanol. My methanol comes on after 20lbs boost. Since the propane is controlled in my cab I don't use as much as I first did. I never use it off the line because I have not modified my trans yet. Since I have Metanol I do not notice any increase in my exhaust temps and since I have just installed a ATS exhaust manifold which I just had Ceramic coated in and out my temps have dropped even more. I find myself using propane only when I have to prove a point if you get my drift. But it has been on over 30,000 miles with no problems.

Hi Monkeyman, I have installed both as well a Bully dop propane system and a snow performance stage II system. Actually I didn´t use it so far but plan to just add a little propane starting at about 5 psi to clear up the smoke and start with the watermeth at about 23 psi. i thin k that should be pretty safe but would like to hear your opinion. regards Thomas
