2003 Memories......

dieseltrucksource.com

I just got back from trying to refill my propane tank for the garage heater. The kid tells me he can't cause the tank does not have a "triangle" shaped on/off valve knob, mine is round

I used to fill the tank here I says, he says not any more...

What's up wif dat ?

A new law - been in effect for some time now - tanks must have a "OPD" (overfill protection device) installed to be legal.

Yet another special interest money grab brought to us by "big Brother"...

Wonder who got paid off for THAT one...

Well the kids that work at the local hardware shop where I get my tanks filled aren't the brightest bulbs in the box, in fact they overfilled a 100 lb tank for me so anyhow, my point is the OPD is a good thing because most of these yahoos don't have a clue as to what they are doing when filling tanks. It's not good to put 20 lbs in a 20 lb tank early in the morning and then leave it in the sun... . get my point. Anyways, depending on the state some required OPD a couple years ago but I think the federal requirements started in April of this year. I guess you could make a nice air tank out of the old 20 pounder.

If there grill size tanks, go to walmart. They have an exchange system, if there not to sharp they will not charge you the $12. 00 extra because you have the old style tank.

PS: They might have blue rino tanks, I think these type can not be refilled by anybody but Blue Rino, I think its written on the side something about a different valve or something, not sure.

Try Home Depot.

They exchange them in Michigan for about $18. That includes a full tank of gas. The Blue Rhino tanks here have a plastic wrapper that peels off and you can take the tank to your local refiller. Just watch that you get the correct valve. The Weber valves don't work well with the threaded fittings.

Happy New Year everyone!!

OPD valves

 Any of you fellas know where to buy the OPD valves for the 7 gal tanks or the 10's. Thanks, I have to change of couple of mine. Tim:rolleyes:

Hey Dane, isn't this fun? I have to replace two in my camper when I get a chance. Somehow, my wife is still able to get them filled though. I just don't want to know what she does. :D

We had the valves replaced in our 30-lb cylinders that are 16 years old at Tree Tops RV Village in Arlington TX this past Thanksgiving. Guy doing the work said the main thing is that there are no large dents or rust on the bottles. Mine are in outstanding condition so he was able to replace the valves on them. Cost $20 for each valve and $14 to refill each bottle. Don't have to worry about it now.
