Post Your Jeep with Pics

Cool 1st gen, 10 wheeler.

I just watched Dirtrax on TV. That 800 outlander "X" series looks like one bad @ss quad. The X series upgrades the exhaust and shocks etc. . Pretty good stuff.

I just brought home a new Polaris 800 Sportsman X2 last week. Initial riding impressions are all smiles!!! I rode the Can AM and the King Quad before buying and overall liked the Polaris the best. Big power, even with two adult men riding.

I am very interested to hear what others have to say about all makes of the "big bore" ATVs.

Can-Am Renegade 800X

I went and traded my 2007 Yamaha 450 Grizzly for the Can-Am Renegade 800X because I it wasn't much fun just sport riding. It was good for pulling the log splitter and small trailer around but just wasn't getting it otherwise. Yamaha listed 26. 5 horsepower on the Manufacturers Statement of Origin where as the Can-Am listed 62 horsepower on there MSO. Yep, I believe them, that Rotax 800cc V-twin is awesome.

The Renegade is a more sport oriented ATV than Can-Am's Outlander series but still can tow 1300 lbs and can receive the winch set-up. The "X" model gets the remote reservoir shocks, skidplate, tapered handlebars, reinforced wheels, custom seat and graphics. I know I am too old for this, but this thing is an absolute blast to ride. It will pull the front up rather easily.

I also added a small rack to the back which isn't shown on the pictures here, however, I may switch to an even larger rear aftermarket rack depending on how useful the small rack is.

Oo. Oo.

I have owned 2 Polaris Sportsman's 500's. I currently own a Polaris Sportsman 800LE. I have never had a problem with the Polaris, and in my opinion it is an excellent ATV. The EFI is great, and I would not buy a machine w/o it. Polaris also offers accessories that are designed for the machine, so the fit & finish is perfect. No "universal" fit to tie things onto the racks, etc. You may pay a little more for the "Pure Polaris" accessories, but I think it is worth it. There is a lot of very nice machines out there and a person has to look at all of them, ride them, and see what "fits" them. Also look into warranties and service. Some machines have to be returned for service, like a valve adjustment after about 20 hours. When they sell the machine, they don't tell you the "cost" of this service. An ATV is a big investment, so find one that you like the looks of, how it rides, how it feels, brand reputation, and or dealers in your area that will take care of you. Like a lot of diesel owners, WANT vs NEED ... Have fun with your new ATV, and "tread lightly".

Dang. If an ATV need a valve adjustment after 20 hours, then I'm not buying it, for sure. What ATV is that? If it's one of those race quads I understand. . but a utility quad, I'll pass.

Initial service, which includes a valve inspection, is required at 20 hours on any ATV. Polaris' is actually 15 hours. Motorcycles require a first service at 600 miles. PWC's require a first service at 10 hours. Industry standard.

Scott

Not all initial services include a valve inspection, however most of my experience is in the sportbike realm, and most sportbikes now don't require a valve inspection at initial service.

Money=CCs

All those ponies are not needed in ATVs, I have two Polaris 330 Magnums, they do anything a big bore machine can do. I have a plow, trailer, winches, the works, they do it all, maybe a little slower, but hey, why do you need to go 70MPH on a quad? Most of the time I am on trails that you cannot go over two-three MPH, crawling over rocks, tree roots, down into ravines. I find that power steering might be nice, but I can still steer on my own. I after riding a 800 Polaris, and a Grizzly, find my little Magnums can manuver in tighter quarters, climb the same hills, and do it much cheaper, on one tank of fuel. Gearing does the work... :D

I am another voter for the 700 King Quad. I have 1500 pretty hard trails miles on mine and it does really well. Buddy has a Can Am Outlander Max LTD X2 800, it is very nice, and alot of power, but it is always overheating and going into limp mode. It has been in the shop quite a bit, but it could be a lemon. . His wife has the 650 and it too is a great machine, but its radiator gets clogged with dirt and dust because of the openess. Granted it is more a race machine, but I think Can Am makes a nice machine, but they are not better than a Grizzly, King Quad or the Big Honda. Also, check out Ebay for quad specials. There are always dealers adverstising left overs that are thousands less than a current or future model year.

I love my Polaris 700. It will do anything I want it to do, either on our farm, hunting, or just joy riding. It's big and kind of bulky but will go anywhere in 2 wheel drive. I just use 4 wheel drive to get less mud over everything. I used to race hare scrambles with a bike, but if the trail was wide enough, I would take my Polaris on anything my YZ 250F would do, well almost anything!!

A Polaris 700... I thought that was the worst bike Polaris ever sold as far as reliability. We go to WVA and ride and rocks down there beat the bikes up pretty bad. From what I have noticed down there, the Grizzly is a good performer and is reliable. Can take lots of abuse! When I purchased my 750 Brute Force,I figured I didn't need to have power steering. When we took our last trip 2 weeks ago down there, all the guys picked on the Grizzly w/power steering but at the end of a long day riding in the rocks... . guess who felt the best and wasn't taking Advil ? His was brand spanking new and cannot vouge for reliability on the long haul though with the power steering anyway.

You're funny. Don't let this man put those crazy thoughts in your head. This is TDR, where we need big turbo, big injectors, Dual Disc Clutches and Big ATV's. Come On Now! :)

Of course you need big CC's! My little bro has a 250 recon, and it's a fun little machine, gets around nice, is easy to flip back over and rarely needs filled back up. I enjoy that machine, but our 650 Raptor is a blast to drive, jump, and powerslide. It's like comparing a toyota to a monster truck. I guess, yah, you don't need a monster truck, but, why settle for a toyota? :-laf

I'll tell you what, come on up here to the high country and play on our rocks. That raptor will be in pieces within a day! Sure I love horsepower as much as the next guy, it has its place though. Kind of like the young bull telling the old bull to run down and take a couple cows, the old bull says "Lets walk down and have them all!":D:-laf

All that HP on a quad is only good for spinning tires and burning fuel. I am waiting for a turbo diesel quad though, the new Artic Cat is nice, but large, heavy, no turbo for altitude, and quite expensive... I work my machines, load em, pull em, and head for the continental divide, for a view of the world... I really don't care how fast I get there, as the journey is a big part of the fun... :D

Got to love those 330s, we also have two of them. :) Just wish they were 4x4:mad:

I love my 800 Polaris!

Never short of power and it cruises on the open country roads faster than some of the other makes do flat out. In this area we ride @ least 10 miles to where the really good riding begins(no trailers). I have spent enough time on some of the other brands to know they are not for me. (engines rpm"d out)

Second choice would be a 700-750 Suzuki.
