Thanks for the input Lightman, I was thinking the same thing, towing on the 60hp level. Using the 30 hp level for everyday driving, and maybe switching to the 100hp level when those pesky ricers start buzzing around. .

Now to the Blackboard... So after I write " I will not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... I wil not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... " a thousand times, I will have to give Quad a call... :)

:D :D :D

No problem nwjetboat - I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. I still am in disbelief at how much difference it makes in the truck's driveability. Doug/Dleno put it best in a private message to me the other day when he said "you're too used to driving a neutered diesel!" :)

I should say that I personally recommend the race box to those with self control. I don't think many people will use the 30hp setting once they get used to having the module.

I am actually planning to use the 60 for everyday driving, and bumping it down to 30 when towing to keep EGT's and transmission wear to a minimum. That's why I chose the standard box. I like the available 30, and really don't see myself ever using the 140. I'm very kind to my truck :)

Ya, the 100 will be for special occassions only.

That makes sense Duck- and for most conservative owners that don't want to go too crazy the standard module is a dream come true. I also forgot the standard module is also priced a bit less than the race.

I have a feeling (although I haven't tried it yet) that towing on the 60hp level is pretty do-able. Can anyone that tested it towing comment EGT wise? I guess if it's not I can turn it off and go to stock. I recommended the race box for the fact that there are the 100 and 140hp levels to 'grow into' . I know one of these days I'll have a full hp trans and bigger turbo - so I don't want to have to upgrade boxes then.

I keep saying to myself "switch it back down to the middle setting" but my fuel mileage is so much better in the high setting. If you use restraint :) , the stresses on the transmission shouldn't be any worse than if have it on the middle setting and switch to high when you want to keep that Beemer from cutting in front of you!:D :D :D Driving around on the high setting I have gone from about 11. 5-12. 5mpg (before box) to 16-18mpg around town and from 16-17mpg to 21-22mpg on the highway (4x4 with automatic transmission).

I experienced a mpg improvement under reasonably exact and controlled conditions (flat highway on cruise at same speed, same day) of an honest 1mpg, hand calculated. Nothing like Mr Cooper has reported. John - are you quoting those mileage figures from the overhead display?

Yes, they are from the overhead display but every time I have checked with hand calc it has been no more than 0. 2mpg off from the overhead. When I started getting the better readings I did hand calcs to make sure the overhead wasn't also being fooled by the "box". Right now with about 1/2 a tank gone, my overhead shows 16. 8mpg. This mostly 2 miles each way to work on surface streets and with a handfull of short freeway jaunts.

Fuel mileage is a very sensitive topic, but I think that there is somewhat of an eas explanation to some of the higher claims. SInce we have literally tested hundreds of truck we have come up with some very unusualy trends.

If you will notice that his truck was only getting 11-12 mpg, that is very low for a 2003 truck. Most of you with stock 03's get considerably better mileage than that. THe trucks that get the worst mileage seem to get by far the best gain. The trucks already getting 18mpg are much harder to improve.

Now there is 1 of 2 things happening.

1. ) Some trucks with certain flashes are just less efficient due to factory programming and the new tuning really helps them.

2. ) Driving habits. Some people are dead set on using a certain amount of acceleration anywhere they go. No matter the conditions they will go from 0-45 or 0-70mph at a certain acceleration rate. This is just how they drive. These people tend to get less mileage as they are using more power. With the module or new tuning it makes it much easier on their truck to do what they ask. They are not really racing, but it is much easier to get to their desired speed at the same acceleration rate.

That is just our notes from getting gobs of mileage reporting. Tjis may not be the only reasoning, but it sure makes sense.

John - that's a fantastic gain - I must say I'm surprised/impressed. Then again you're the first person I've seen post that's tested the box on a CA 235hp version truck. I also don't recall hearing how CA 03's do compared to SO's or HO's from 03 mileage wise.

The biggest difference that I have seen with this box is it doesn't seem like I have to give it nearly as much throttle accellerating from a stop and climbing slight grades (overpasses), and when I climb significant grades the mileage doesn't seem drop off as quick as without the box. I used to read the claims by others of the mileage they were getting and figured they were resetting the computer just as they started down hill.

Before the box the best mileage I got on any long trip was 17. 5mpg. Just after I put the box on we took a trip to San Luis Obispo (about 225 miles up the coast) I had already driven around town for a day on that tank of fuel. On the way up we averaged 20. 5mpg for that tank. I drove another hundred miles around town that weekend. When we were ready to leave the computer read 18. 5mpg. When I filled up, I hand calculated the mileage at 18. 3mpg. We averaged 21. 5mpg on the drive home. That included pulling off for dinner and a climb up the Conejo Pass, 6 miles, 6% grade. This was all on the middle setting. At about 10 miles left on the trip, I switched from the middle setting to the high setting. The computer was showing 20. 1mpg. By the time we got home it was up to 21. 5mpg.

Quad - Thanks! Oo. Oo. Oo.

I will not bomb my truck... I wil not bomb my truck... I will not bomb my truck... There I'm finished with my 1000 times... Now we just need to get a Group Purchase going... ...

Just got off the phone with Stan... . the next 3 or 4 days are going to tough! I ordered the STD Box for my 03'. I was originally going to go with a TST, but like the ease of installation and adjustability of the Quad box. Also, I know I won't be pushing the limit with the Q Box like I would be on the TST! About the only other thing to do at the moment is look for for a Boost Gauge and a Pyro. Thinking about the one I saw in Geno's catalog, the one with both functions in the same gauge with a SRT A pillar. Man, is the UPS guy here yet!!! :D

I pulled a 25' travel trailer today with my VA on 50% and my Quad Race on the 60 hp setting and had no trouble with egt's on the expressway. It was a short trip with no hills but did not get over 850* merging onto the expressway.

I too am patiently waiting on Mr. UPS. I'm hoping he will come Thursday afternoon or Friday morning so I can install it for a 125 mile roundtrip I'm taking Friday evening. I'm fairly new to the TDR (1 1/2 years), I have never seen such a positive response to a bomb as I have with this new Quadzilla. Does this happen with every new release? By the way, I hope I didnt get Stan from Quadzilla in trouble for mentioning the new monitor and its feautures they are coming out with soon. Sorry Stan if I did. ): I was just pumped after talking to you about it all. . I will be patiently waiting.

Funny thing is that it does not usually happen this way...

With the TST, I think it took a little longer to get rolling, and it had a few glitches before it was smooth and error-free

The quad box seems to be perfect right out of the gate (due to large beta testing??)
