Radio volume is eratic

my volume is acting up on me. i have to twist the thing off to get the volume to turn up and down. it turns about 4 turns for what should be a 1/4 turn of volume. it is the infinite jobby with five channel equalizer. and joystick thing for the speaker balance.

anybody know what to do? i thought about pulling it out to try and clean it or something.

thanks,

Todd

it sounds like it's a goner:{ kicked the bucket. it would cost more than half the price of a new unit for the volume control unit, then if you dont have any expirence in that department it will cost aleast $50. for labor. i went through pretty much the same thing with my old unit but when i'd try to turn it down it would turn itself up erratic like.

Yep Ninja, that pretty much what i was thinking. isnt it hard to find a radio that fits the Chrysler sized hole?

anyone have a suggestion?

well you can get a dodge dash kit and put a normal sized stereo in, thats what i did(got jvc). i wasn't goning to pay over 250. for a radio. there are stereos that will fill the hole up, but youre talking some bucks:--) i felt why invest so much in something i turn off most of the time, to listen to my truck. :D

I pulled the stereo out last night and carefully took it apart. i worked my way in to the pot for the volume. i took it out and took it apart, cleaned and greased it. to no avail it still does the same thing.

so i guess its new stereo time for me :D

Oh well, i tried

Todd, mine has been doing the same thing for quite a while now. When I turn it up or down, it takes waaaay too many turns to be effective, not to mention the fact that when I turn it up, sometimes it turns down and vice versa.

todd, i didnt take mine apart, but a friend told me that the real problem is that it is'nt making good contact (volume dial & control plate) if you could come up with some kind of way to tighten the conection you'd be back in bussiness:D
