2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ram 5500 ball joints fitted in 2500?

i was looking at the ball joints on a 2008 ram5500 yesterday and wondered if anybody ever macnined out thier dana 60 C to get a 5500 ball jointto fit in there or is that even possible?

i think i saw somewhere that a company called "dynatrac" was making a very heavey duty rebuildable ball joint for our trucks anyone know anything about that?

Yes, I've heard people who love them and some who didn't notice much difference accept for a liter wallet.

Dynatraxx and Carli both make awesome Ball Joints for our trucks. And even though they are a bit more pricey it a lot cheaper than having the axel and steering knuckles re-machined.

yea, i guess that is true. it seem to me though that very little on our trucks was overbuilt like a heavy duty 3/4 ton diesel should have been. i think if i was an engineer i`d alway overbuild, a good example is the 2500 ram and the 3500 ram cab&chassis. they have the same front end!!!!!! crazy! i have my 3500 with an hydraulic 12' dump on it and it carries a lot more than any 2500, but yet i get the same whimpy ball joint that are in my 2500 i dunno!!!!!!

Carli doesnt make a ball joint for a 2nd gen, only dynatrac. Dynatracs are decently cheaper than Carli too.



The big advantage to the dynatracs over the others, is since they are rebuild able, when you do need to rebuild them, they dont need to be pressed out. To some that's a big advantage. I don't really think its a big deal to press ball joints in/out. I guess if you are paying labor it is?



I havent read enough reviews of dynatracs that have been beat on or have tons of miles, to show me they are proven just yet.

Yes, but the thread is about putting different ball joints in the 60 knuckles... so thats why those were the ones mentioned.



I dont know anything about 2wds.

I should have worded that a little different. I was pretty sure they weren't, but was putting the statement out there to see if anyone could tell me any different. I'm on my third set of ball joints on my 99 2500 2wd. It would be really nice if some of the above mentioned compaines would step up and make some better ball joints for the 2wd trucks as well. I guess it just depends on the demand.

Has anyone here tried the Moog problem solvers? I put them on my truck when I did the Ford knuckles (same part # as Dodge) around 8,000 miles ago. So far so good.

I've heard alot of other guys on other dodge cummins forums being very happy with these ball joints.

Ive had no luck with any balljoints yet. BUT... I beat on it pretty hard too. They all seem to last about 20-30K under mine before they become total trash. In fact Im there again, the truck is close to being un-driveable. Carlis are going in next, and then never again will I have to deal with it.

Here is another idea. Definitely not for everyone, but if you have a 4"+ lift, this may be worth while.

Change out the inner knuckles to a beefier set-up; like this-

Costs $300 plus probably about $200-$400 to have the knuckles welded on, if you can't do it yourself.



Like I said, not for everyone. But if your having front drive-line problems, And you don't want to index your t-case to correct your drive-line angles, you do this and fix both problems, but it's not that simple. It depends on the year of your Dodge. You may have to get an inner and outer knuckle set-up... . more$$$

Just so it is clear to those who might be searching, DynaTrac nor Carli build BJ's for the 00-02s. I was finally able to talk to one of Dynatrac's customer service reps, and he said that obviously the 94-99 BJ's don't fit nor do the 03-on ball joints fit. He also informed me that they do not make any at this time that do fit 00-02's. Carli also only lists the 94-99's and 03-forward, so I'm pretty sure that's a no too.
