I have a speaker position that doesn't work. It slowly died over the course of a few months, now it's dead. The speaker itself is fine, I swapped it with the other side.

How do I test to see if it's the radio or the wiring? Will your average multi-funtion tester read speaker signals or are they too weak?

we see this quite often at the dealer. its either the radio or the amp. most the time its the radio. chrysler will not test them they just use and exchange program.

Since I'm well outta warranty, what can I replace it with? I think there's another active thread where someone ways a "normal" radio won't work. Gotta go do a little searching I guess.

Yes. Rear left. Same one that the power lock quit working on a couple years ago. Lock has power up to the solenoid. Don't know where the speaker loses signal.

My right rear would work, then not work, then started to make some thumping sounds now and then, and totally stopped working. I found one of the speaker wires in the rubber grommet between the cab and door had been pinched and broke in two.

Hopefully it is just a broken wire. I know the door lock isn't a broken wire. That has power rigt up to the soolenoid. I'll pull it in the shop and check that loom out.

Thanks.

Sweet!! I paid over $100 to the dealer who told me my amp had kicked out. If it's a wire problem as Cattletrkr posted, you've got a cold ale or two on me if you're moving through Colorado sometime. Will check it and post the results.

Well - sad to say, I didn't find any broken wires. All I did was pull the plug on the door side. I didn't pull the plug from the B pillar, nor did I remove the door panel, but I didn't see anything that would indicate chafe. I may do a bit more trouble-shooting, but it's looking like a new amp sometime.

Appreciate the link. I never did get the speaker repaired, but the dealer did charge me $150 to tell me the amp channel is dead, and the "full warranty" I purchased won't cover it. Now my rear passenger door lock is toast. Will check the wires and actuator to see if I can get it working.

So in the end I pulled the door panel and the grommets off both ends between the door and B pillar. Four wires cut, one more to go. Thanks for all the help. Will be going to the dealer to ask for cash back and a free wiring loom (fat chance, I know). I soldered the cut wires and all is working fine now
