I just installed an Isspro boost and EGT and have 2 questions below

EGT: Cold, in the morning, 65 deg outsite, the gauge reads 150-175 deg. This is what it read when it came out of the box. It this OK? I here they set them up at 1200 deg, but I also read they should show "around" outside air temp cold.

Boost: Say if I had a 24 V, with RV injectors, and a pressure regulator on the MAP side. (no elbow) the most boost I see is around 10-15 running it normal (hard). If I hold it WOT in 4th gear (beat it) after about 2800 rpm's I may see 18 and thats it. I don't think my tubes are leaking (tightned them a couple times), maybe my waist gate is opening to early? I expected around 20. How fast should your boost build up? Do I have to run 2800 rpm WOT for several seconds to see max boost?

Will

If I read your message correctly, you have bigger injectors and a pneumatic boost module. I also see that you have no boost elbow.

Without a modification to the wastegate (boost elbow or otherwise), you have done nothing to prevent the wastegate from dumping at whatever setting it was shipped at.

Your boost module / regulator is preventing defueling above ~21psi, but you will never get there without messing with the wastegate.

anyone else think otherwise, please correct me

As a short test to verify my thoughts, disconnect and plug the wastegate line at the elbow. Now try a test run or two.

If you see/feel something change, you will know that the wastegate control is the issue.

DON'T LEAVE THIS UNHOOKED and MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE GAUGES when running this test.

I installed the same gauges in my 2001 a couple of weeks ago. when cold, my EGT reads between 50 and 100 degrees which is pretty much the ambient temperature in my garage. This is a pre-turbo mount.

My boost gauge drove me crazy. Final resolution was elimination of a leak in the connection at the gauge. I ended up using a small piece of duct tape around the compression fitting and tightening the brass coupler back up. It reads right up to 20 psi now.

"I expected around 20. How fast should your boost build up? Do I have to run 2800 rpm WOT for several seconds to see max boost"

With just the injectors, I get 20lb boost in just a second or two in any gear at wot. It comes in at any rpm above lugging speed (any rpm I can hold with the auto I should say).

And with the box on it will get to 30 just as fast, with no wastegate modifications. The wastegate reduces boost, but can not competely hold it down if you are shooting extra fuel to the engine.

I have read that max boost levels vary, but you should not have to run 2800 rpm to get max boost.

Someone tell us at what pressure the wastegate cracks open, and at what pressure it is fully open. Please.

Mike

I can't stay in one gear for a second or 2! I have a 5 speed, and it don't take long to wind up!

This weekend, I will go over the intercooler hoses and do dave's test on the waist gate.
It just seam like boost don't come up to quick. It feels as good as it ever did, so maybe I have a leak from since it was new?

At this rate, I don't see where my MAP regulator is even needed. I can't get 21 psi!

OK, I did Dave's test. and the boost goes up at the same rate, but will hit in the high 20's before I run out of RPM and have to shift. I even think I saw 32 one time.
and the EGT seemed lower at these boost conditions.

Guess its time to "re-engineer" the waist gate.
Thanks Dave
(what PSI should the waist gate open with just 275 injectors and boost module?)

TowPro, I just installed the same gauges in my truck today and when running down the road I get anywhere between 400-600 degress on the EGT gauge. While the boost gauge reads mostly only 4 psi, and sometimes 12 (driving uphill). At WOT the boost gauge reads maximum of about 20 psi. My truck is totally stock.

I did some unplanned 4wheeling this past weekend. While blasting across a rather scary mud bog I hit 32psi as registered on the peak hold feature of my digital gauges. I think most of the bog is on the truck now #ad

The only down side of this power is breaking traction all the time. (Remember I live on dirt roads and have limited slip) If I want to pull out of a driveway and enter a slight upward grade, I keep seeing these dark stripes following me everywhere I go. #ad

Green monster now with just the DD Stage I's, boost module and elbow. & trying to get 'the edge' ordered so I can control the hp in low traction areas (and crank it when I want to play)
