I swapped out my pads after 28,000 they were down to nothing. I bought the OEM pads but there were no sensors or squeakers on them like the originals. They were the more expensive pads from the dealer. The fronts lasted 24,000. Also I was disappointed to see the boots on the pistons burned or disintegrated. This happens on my car I road race but the truck? Is this normal? I don't remember the fronts being like that a month ago. Also the pads were very corroded after 18 months. Thanks for any comments.

Dog it took me a minute to look at your sig to see the word AUTO. Your experience with brakes is very different from mine. I had the front pads replaced under warrenty with a bad caliper at around 22k. I checked my rear pads for the first time at 60k last week to find over 3/4 material but a delaminated pad on the DS inside. My front pads are still over 3/4 material with 38k on them.

I replaced the rears with performance friction carbon metalic pads from autozone. They seem to perform very well so far.

My 98 gasser was an auto I burned through brakes at about the same rate you are.

Hopefully an auto driver will chime in but the heat issue in the front end is a bit troubling to me.

Thanks for your input Ted the back brakes had no boots. The rotors front and back had some wear but not much at all. The outside rears had no ridge and the pads wore almost evenly, go figure.

I have two Auto's and no brake problems

You can see by my sig that I have a 95 3500 auto 4x4. Probably one of the heaviest rigs amongst us and have 78K on the original brakes. Checked all of the brakes recently and have well over 50%.

Two notes, I did not look closely at your vehicle profile but I'm assuming you do not have four wheel disc, and driving style plays an important role in brake life.

I drive a GMC 4X4 auto for a work truck with 4 wheel disc. It is a 2001 with 105K on it now. It is still on original brakes also. (I know you are interested in the Dodge, but thought I would give you another thought. )

which boots are you talking about? Around the piston? I have not spent alot of time with these brakes just done the work they have required.

I have a '98. 5 2500 QC 4x4 LWB Ram (47RE) that had 81. 5 k mi. on the front (OE) disc brake pads before they were completely worn out. I just removed the rear brake shoes (drum brakes) and they looked as though they had at least 80, maybe 90% left.

[that's one of the reasons I decided to convert over to the rear disc brakes]

Although I have an exhaust brake and DTT Smart Controller, I would estimate that I only used the exhaust brake less than 40 k mi. of the previously stated total mileage.

I guess it all comes down to how you use your vehicle.
